I am asking this question because of something I saw on youtube yesterday. It was a video of someone saying a half Italian half Greek white supremacist wasn't really pure & white. He then said that the other non-Italian white supremacists probably called him a greasy wop when he left the room.

Whatever.

I'm Portuguese, and while I'm not much familiar with Italian, Greek and even Spanish people, I doubt they attach as much importance to those racial issues as you.

And do you know why?

I tell you.

Do you know what gave rise to that myth of the superiority of white people?

It wasn't skin colour itself.

It was because some European peoples held dominion over some territories and some peoples through a detestable movement called COLONIZATION.

Do you really believe for a moment that if Europeans had never set sail from their countries, had never taken over some territories on other continents, and had never enslaved or oppressed some people of other ethnicities, that references to being "white", "black" or "Native American" would be that sensitive nowadays?

Some Asians are as light-skinned as Europeans, yet is the term "Asian" likely to upset anyone's susceptibilities?

Not at all...

Portugal, Spain, Greece and Italy were never colonized (but let me comfort you by saying for example, that Portugal was under Spanish dominion for 60 years, and before its formation as a country, it was under the dominion of the Roman Empire), and some of those countries even happened to have had colonies.

So, do you think they have any reason to feel bothered about such racial issues?...
(Well, it's true that they should probably pause to reflect on the actions of their ancestors, but that's another story...)

Well... I must say that at times, I used to feel a bit bothered about that... But for very different reasons to yours...

Because all of a sudden, I felt that some people, such as those "white supremacists in your country", wanted TO LOWER MY STATUS based on my background (I'm white, by the way), and I wasn't used to that at all...

Also, some Northern Europeans (being the lightest of all European people, as they claim), seem to wish to take advantage of European history to claim their "superiority" over Southern Europeans... Do you think this is acceptable?...

Anyway, I can honestly say that this no longer bothers me in the least...

It was just the shock of learning of this...

I really think that such people are absolutely worthless, and as they can't have influence in any other way, then they just stick to any "guns" they can find...

People who think in those terms aren't very bright anyway. White people are the biggest mongrels in the world, the "purest" races are probably to be found in Africa, it's all B*** anyway.
As a previous answer said Mediterranean best describes the people you mentioned.

I don't agree people should be judged by skin pigmentation. Perhaps many would consider them white, but I do not know what is considered white, when what amount of mix makes you non white. It's better not to think in terms of colour but in terms of peace and harmony amongst all peoples.

They went by the term of "wog" during the aftermath of WW2
and their placement to Australia
I 'd not given much thought to Greek/Italian in terms of colour -
rather.... Mediterranean in origin and culture

I fully agree with the previous answers..
Just to point out that both Italy and Greece were colonized by other nations:
Greece by the Ottoman Empire
Italy by Arabs, Vikings, Spain, France, Austria..
Spain by Arabs as well
