you need to scan your computer regularly.
you need to update security software regularly. security programs make updates daily or at least several times a week. if you haven't chose automatic update options, your programs might be old and useless.
use real-time monitoring option if your programs have it.
make sure the software you have is reputable. if you have malicious tool like spy locked or spy dawn, then it's not surprise that your computer is infected.
basically even if you have the best security but install a malware by yourself, it can infect your computer. i mean software like limewire, hotbar and similar that people take as harmless and install although firewall warns about the danger.

I agree with "Be Cool" above -- I actually like Bit Defender 2010. Just installed it on Windows 7 a week ago. It is very effective and easy to use. Very light on system resources, which was a major concern to me running a new operating system. I would still avoid the free ones. They seem to be a step behind in offering the best possible protection. I have used AVG and Avast but cannot recommend those. Norton, of course, is the most common in stores, but it has always used up a lot of system resources which slows the machine down considerably.

I left an answer on your previous question but if the virus is located in the restore volumes, your security products probably cannot remove them but you can easily by disabling System Restore, rebooting, then re-enabling Sysytem Restore when you log back in. This clears old restore points where the virus might still be lurking and ready to reinstall should the need to rollback your computer occur.

You don't state what your running, if your using a poor anti virus program, a poor anti spyware program & a leaky firewall then you will still get virus.
If you contact me with what your using, I would be happy to let your know how to improve your Security.

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:

bottom line here. thieves and scum will always be one step ahead. from five years working on computers my advice is, stay off the porn and gambling sites. anything that says its free on the internet isnt, dont download whatever it is if you dont have to and if you dont know, dont click, search google first. ive been using avg free for the entire time and whatever problem crops up is always fixed.
