it is very hard to keep writing songs that don't sound the same so i think they make a few really good songs and the rest of the songs you can make your own mind up whether you like it or not .but sometimes you get a CD that is good all the way through

Hi,
music is strictly a matter for personal choice.
I LOVED R&B when it was 'Rhythm and Blues' (quite possibly before you were even born) the modern version, quite frankly, leaves me cold.
However, there is room for all types of music and you (and many others) do like this style of music. I have to point out, however, that you have probably answered most of your own question when you state that 'most of it sounds stale, boring and uncreative' (and YOU are a lover of this style!)
Because the lovers of this style of music ARE in the minority the rewards for creating new, original and fresh songs is limited. (It is also a very 'narrow' style of music and anything TOO original is likely to be dismissed by the fans as 'not R&B', so it must be very difficult to come up with 'truly great' songs that will be acceptable to the fans.)
All types of music eventually run out of ideas that fit in with whatever fashion and style of music is in vogue. Look at Rock and Roll, blues, Jazz, and so on...all of which retain their ardent fans, but little 'new' ever comes along and enjoyment is generally limited to listening to the 'old greats'. I suspect your chosen style is no different.
As this is still a current style, there is always the chance that a new song will come along tomorrow that you will consider 'truly great', but remember...every new song written by an artist (in any genre) is considered 'great' by the writer.
Other people may, and do, have different tastes.
So enjoy what you have and wait for the next 'great' to come along. All songs cannot be 'great' (in any style) and acceptance and recognition of any song's greatness comes after release and will be evident in the sales and appreciation shown by the fans.
Enjoy,
BobSpain
