He had no contract as it is a delivery position, but he was there for three months, and when he asked his boss, he totally went off on one and started ranting and raving about conditions agreed at start (which he has a short memory about, as agreement was 5 day week, but BF is working 6 days now, and days are getting longer each week).

Your boyfriend will have had a contract - a contract does not have to be a signed document. He has been working for this employer, the employer has been paying him. That is a contract.
What most people mean by a contract is a 'statement of particulars', which is an outline of the terms and conditions of employment: job role, pay, hours/days to be worked, holiday entitlement, notice to be given etc. This must, by law, be provided by the employer, to the employee within 8 weeks of the start of employment.
Your boyfriend should not be working beyond the terms of this statement.
Your boyfriend is not automatically entitled to a pay rise, although he is free to ask for one. Asking after 3 months is rather soon though! I can understand it though if he has been working beyond the 5 days agreed - but he should have asked for additional pay before acccepting the extra day's work!
The employer should have gone through a proper procedure to dismiss your boyfriend, but the problem is that, in most cases, he cannot have access to an employment tribunal until he has been in employment for a year. However, if the employer has not provided him with a 'statemnet of particulars' - he can access a tribunal to address this issue.

Firstly, ignoring the obvious spelling mistake, it's spelt tension .... there is a thing called inflation, remind your boss that your earninsg should be kept in line with this. You should only really get a good pay rise if you are skilled. Can a trained chimp do your job? If yes, don't push it. ASK, and if he declines, say you feel the pay no longer reflects the job you do and the skills you have acquired since starting it, and how retraining a new person will hold the company back. Managers like ambitious people, also suggest taking on more work, or getting qualifications, he'll love it

1st off, depending on what state you are in and the state laws, most states are "employment at will" states which means that there is no contract and that the employer or employee can terminate employment at any time for "good reasons, bad reasons, or no reason at all".

2nd, it sounds like your bf's boss was taking advantage of his employees being as he agreed to a 5 day workweek and ended going into a 6.

3rd, my advice to you and your bf is to both take a business law course at your local community college. You will definately learn something and also contact your labor board and find out just what your state laws actually are.

In the UK a person has to work 6 months before establishing rights. However, summary dismissal for asking for a pay rise does sound tough. Evidently, your boyfriend's employer was not a very nice person. Your boyfriend should take this as a good omen - he can now look for a better position for a good employer.

He could probably sue for wrongful termination, but there isn't enough evidence to give your boyfriend much of a chance in court, especially since he'd only been employed there for three months.

Really, it sounds like the job isn't worth the trouble and that your boyfriend would be better off investing his energy in finding a better job with a better boss, anyway.

It looks as if he has not carried out the proper procedure. Asking for a rise is not gross misconduct but called the Boss a tight fisted ******* is

You have to do at least 13 weeks before you get any rights - and (I believe) 1 year before you can claim wrongful dismissal ... however it sounds like he is better off out of it ..

if theres no contract than ure boyf has no ground to stand on. maybe unfair dismissal, but i doubt it would hold up in court. good luck with whatever u decide to do anyway, but i think you should just look for another job and not waste money battling it!! x x x

well if he is not part of a union then the boss can do what every he wants. they can hire you one day then fire your butt the next day. its all on how the boss feels that day. So sorry, but there is nothing he can do

you cant fire somebody without reason, to terminate somebodys employment has to be done legal with reasons. to pay somebody off requires no reason other than no work on. make sure he was actually fired or was he just paid off?
