Humans act on instinct a lot more than any of us like to admit. Our successful evolution included killing everything in sight. Since we can't run as fast, have weaker muscles, no decent claws, we developed brains that could think of new and better ways to kill enemies or imagined enemies.

We have evolved to be the way we are and can't use our brains to do better. Our brains are programmed to feel safe with the familiar and to fear the "other" whether the "other" be other peoples or animals.

If you don't believe this, look at the extremes the U.S. is currently going to to protect its population from the "evil" doers and how effectively the fear mongering worked to stir up the population.

Men are selfish, generally.
Unfortunately, we have the technology and the intelligence to plan how to do horrible things. We have guns, and when some macho dude gets a bruised ego, that can lead to violence. Or, if someone feels the need to exert his power over nature, he goes hunting. Stupid and unnecessary, as people waste food every day in developed countries.
It's probably our need to assert dominance that makes us dangerous. We want to tame the world - and, if possible, other people. Maybe we think that, on some fundamental level, we're more fit if we can dominate, thus ensuring the perpetuation of our genes.
As for selfishness: we go to extremes to provide luxuries to those who are willing to pay for it. Cutting down forests so we can produce more beef. That destroys a precious habitat, killing untold numbers of organisms in the process. Or building private jets, driving cars, manufacturing stupid curiosities - all of these produce lots of pollution, which again (although indirectly) kills of who know how many creatures.

As for improving brain power, we'd have to overhaul society, make it so that no one was in need of anything. It's not possible, though; even if everyone had whatever he needed, he'd always be jealous of someone else. Religion is a comforting answer, but we've seen already that trying to impose religions on people only leads to more death and destruction. Honestly, I don't think it' possible to change the way humans act. It may be a product of human nature, or of society today, but it's deeply engrained in the minds of men to be so selfish and brutal.

Depends what you imply by means of 'such a lot damaging'. If you imply 'damaging' as in 'reasons probably the most fatalities', then the reply is the Anopheles mosquito. It's the principal vector of malaria, because of this they have got traditionally been dependable for round HALF of all human deaths (except for wars and injuries) considering that the Stone Age, and nonetheless kill approximately one million million persons a yr global. (To placed that during viewpoint, snakes take approximately one hundred twenty five,000 lives global yearly.) If you imply 'damaging' as in 'mano a mano', there is not particularly a well reply to that. A quality white can kill you with a unmarried chunk, in idea, however an enraged hippo or bull African elephant would do their paintings in seconds, as good. (The hippo's 'strike fee' is bigger than each lions and tigers, BTW). Of the fewer 'violent' killers, a stonefish or field jellyfish sting, or a chunk from a taipan or sea snake is incredibly more likely to be deadly if no antidote is inside succeed in speedy. Take your select. Me, I'm nonetheless with the men who stated 'people', frankly ; )

If violence was a disadvantage to survival, it would have been eliminated from the gene pool by now. Like it or not, genetic predisposition to violence, either towrds each other or to other animals, probably gives an advantage to survival.
The only way to stop it is to stop violent people having children.

Man is dangerous because man has a choice to hurt another being. No one makes him do it. Animals kill only for survival or food. What they need is a renewing of their mind and that can only come from God.
