It came out within a few months of the 1998 movie called Armageddon. I remember there was a lot of people talking about the fact that one movie was a ripoff of the other (to a degree) because they both dealt with similar storylines, about an asteroid/comet that was on its way towards earth, and the release dates for these movies were so close to each other. Can anyone remember what the second movie is called?

I remember thats as well The Second movie was titled Deep Impact and there was a lot of hype as to which one fo those movies was first and who riped off who.

I believe the movie you are looking for is "Deep Impact"...
It is a great plot starring "Morgan Freeman"... And yes there was the controversy with the films being released so close together...
