I'm going to start swimming at my gym, but I'm uncomfortable wearing just a bathing suit. Is it unusual for women to wear shorts over their suits? Would it look weird? What should I do? Thanks!

Do what makes you feel comfortable,
You do seem a bit too conerned about what others think though, but really its subconscious judgements about yourself.

Don't worry about it, these days can you really afford to?

It may be uncomfortable wearing a set of shorts while trying to swim. Buy a bathing suit that has the short type bottoms or buy a 1 piece that covers everything.

It may be a bit unusual because your wearing shorts in the pool. You can buy a bathing suite that has like shorts instead of bikini bottoms then it covers you up just like shorts, hope this helps!

If you don't feel comfortable with just a swim suit you could wear shorts. The only problem is it will slow you down, because there will be more water resistance. No one will care how fat or slim you are. Besides it isn't a fashion show to see how nice everyone body is.

hi i work in a pool and when ladies come in with shorts over their swim suits it can actualy make them look larger than there actualy are. Also like others have said they can weigh you down and therefor be dangerous if you are not that strong a swimmer.
you will fit in no probs with just the swimsuit.
be brave and take the plunge!!
you can do it!!x

I think you will find that most woman are not wearing shorts, they will have just their swim suits on. So it is up to you if you are comfortable. Just be sure they are light weight shorts..so they don't weigh you down when they get wet.

That's weird. Wear a long one-piece suit instead of a two-piece. Those usually cover more.

Hey! I'd say got for it and wear a pair of boardshorts...Whatever makes you more comfortable. I'm from NZ, so I don't know, maybe we're just a bit more conservative...but its more hip over here to wear a pair of cute boardshorts over our swimsuits.

It probably is weird. But you have to do what you think is RIGHT. Go ahead and do it, be confident.
