I am gratified to know that you are perfectly satisfied with your position in life and that you have every single thing you desire and that you live in a position where you consider yourself and all those you love to be absolutely safe and free to see, say, act and do as they and you sees fit. and that you are beyond a doubt secure in the knowledge that no one wants a piece of your pie. armies and weapons manufacturers do not make war people do. People are greedy self serving and willing to take anything you have if it can better them in any way. If you have a coat and jack over here is cold he will inevitably take your coat by force if necessary. and when he finds it wont fit just as likely he will throw it away and go take another with little or no thought to you. People are bread to Instinctively take what the want

Weapons and soldiers do not make war, they are the instruments of war. Is it your view that all war is evil? If so, then it becomes very difficult to answer your real question which seems to be how to stop war..... I would submit that that is an unnecessary question because as long as there are evil people in the world who seek to bring others under their power there will exist the need for hard men who will stand up to them. Do you also thing that if no weapons were manufactured and no police employed that crime would stop? The evil in the world will always find a way attempt to steal, kill, and destroy. Good men will always have to stand up to the evil by whatever means necessary.

Please don't take this as an insult but when you ask a question like that it's possible that you won't understand the answer. The literal answer to your question is yes. If all people collectively agreed to the principal of no longer supporting any part of the mechanism for war then wars would cease. The reality is that people do not think collectively. People think individually and because of this some people will always consider force a preferred solution to their problems or method to attain their desires. Since some people will always gravitate to force and these same people will be encouraged if other people reject force, we must maintain a military to deal with them when they attempt force. Since we spend so much maintaining a military we are inclined to use it ourselves so force becomes a more preferable option to us as well. If we reject the military then those who do not will likely be more inclined to use theirs on us when we disagree with them because the solution is simple and effective.
Short answer: We have a military because others have a military and whoever doesn't have one becomes a victim. We have seen this happen far to many times to deny it. Ants think collectively but people do not. Its both a great strength and a terrible flaw but its not something we can or would want to change.

Technically if no weapons were made and no army people existed there would be no-one to go to war, and no weapons (after awhile).

But people would still fight, it's human nature. War on a smaller scale.

And the fact is, there will always be peole wanting to go to the army, and countries will still make weapons (the U.S economy for example is dependant on defense spending).

The soldiers and weapons arent the root, they are just the tools.

If there were no guns people would just find a different way to kill each other like swords, sticks or even bare hands. Its not soldiers or the manufacturers that are the problem its people and as long as there are people there will be war and conflict somewhere so best advice I can give is just get used to it.

Companies will not stop manufacturing. They would loss a lot of money if they did and $$$ is all anyone thinks of these days....look at the price of gas, we still buy it. Ever heard of the draft? I does not matter if soldier's stop enlisting voluntarily or not. The govt will get their soldiers some way or another.

Uh, no. If people stop enlisting there will be a draft. And if there wasn't, every other country in the world would be strutting in our front door with THEIR weapons because they know we're basically defenseless and they could pretty much just come and loot us. Sorry dude, even if America doesn't want to go to war somebody else will so we'd better be prepared enough to scare them away.

Men in power are the root of ALL wars! And I think if enlistments stopped and weapons were all destroyed that we would revert back to older times where rocks and spears would become major weapons of destruction!!! Still, I like the way you think.

its old men at the root of wars. its just impossible to understand what you are saying. if you close down the companies, new factories would pop up. if you shut down the army, we would be invaded. it would take a worldwide mutual agreement to destroy all weapons, disband all forms of military, and every citizen and political would have to agree. then we would all have to never have any conflicts at all, and if we did we could never let them escalate. and if anybody tries to exploit a group of people...it doesnt make sense at this point in history. its not that we dont all want peace. its just grudges wont go away, trust will never develope and hold, and people just naturally fight.
