my name is Tom Nelson and im from louisiana. I still hear alot of stuff from the media and fans about how better the pac-10, big-10, big-12, and ACC are in football, which i don't believe because i say the SEC is the toughest throughout the nation. Like take last season for example; the bcs and voters wanted either michigan to play ohio state again after they've lost against Ohio State or they've would've put USC against ohio state if they'd won against UCLA to play in the title game despite the fact that florida had beaten Arkanasas to win the SEC championship while being #2 over #3 USC before winning the SEC title. Why the voters and media did not want florida to play in the title game? Maybe they did not wanted to see how dominant a team from the deep south were against other teams in other conferences that they say we're the most dominant. In fact, back in the '04 season despite Auburn going undefeated the voters instead put Oklahoma in the title game against USC.

Terrence W - you are high and a dreamer. Year after year, come bowl season, the truth is spoken. The Big 10 pu ies do not even have a conference championship. The Big 10 will be weaker than last year, and the SEC gets stronger every year. Get your facts right, before posting a bunch of nostatisical BS. The past season schedules are there, the bowl game records are there. and check which conference has the most National Champions in the past Ten Years. The Florida - Ohio Sate romp did not wake you bunch if fairies up, so I guess you will keep dreaming. That game told the story for the last 12-15 years - hands down. That 2007 3-1 bowl record was a fluke and not consistant.

maybe the Big 10 isn't so scared of the SEC because head to head in bowl games last year, the Big 10 won two out of the three matchups against the SEC. Penn State beat bigbad Tennessee, and Wisconsin beat SEC Championship game runner up Arkansas. In the Regular season, Michigan destroyed the same 4-8 Vanderbilt that came close to beating Florida...

SEC went 1-3 against the Big 10 last year, why should the Big 10 tremble at the SEC's feet? Over the past 10 years, there have been three SEC National Champions, three Big 12 national champions, two from the Pac 10, two from the Big 10, one from the ACC, and one from the Big East (Miami was not a member of the ACC yet when they won in 2001). The SEC hasn't dominated anything. I would say that the conference situations of the past national champions shows that there is indeed more balance in college football than the SEC will ever admit. Ask an SEC fan, and they will say the SEC is by far the best conference thats ever played football...so why aren't they any more dominant at winning national championships than anyone else?

If you want to go all time, if the SEC is so dominant, why does the SEC only have two teams in the top 10 winningest programs in the NCAA, (not one higher than 5) while the Big 10 has 3, including the #1 spot?

I agree, Tom. Any1 who doesn't is biased or unaware of the facts. The SEC has 6 of the top 25 teams of all time by winning %. More than any other conference. Since 1933 (the year the SEC was founded) they have won more national titles (21) than any other conf. They have a winning record against every major conference except the Big 10. They r 87-94 against them but if u know that 62 of those losses were by Vandy, Kntky, Ol Miss, Miss St and South Crlina it's not impressive. Against the cream of the SEC (the other 7 teams) the Big 10 won 32 and lost 51. They also have a winning record against every major conference except the Pac 10 and they are tied with them. If there are still any doubters go to cfdatawarehouse and check out the conferences. Since 1933 the SEC was the conference of the decade every time but one. They were an easy choice for the best overall conference. And 4 all u who say the SEC plays a weak schudule; U try playing Tennesee, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas etc. each week and see what your winning % looks like.

The big ten is college football period.

The Sec is a larger conference, but nobody wants to play the big ten in out of conference games. Nobody wants to travel to the big house, the horse shoe or Happy Valley. The reason the big ten never has 6 ranked teams is simply because they kill each other every year. Michigan vs. Ohio state is the best rivalry game in the country. Wisconsin and Iowa are often in the mix. And then every single year Michigan State goes out of conference and beats a top 20 team (Notre dame).

Auburn is over ranked every year I have never seen a team that is ranked in the top 10 to start every year and then folds down the stretch. Tennesse has not been all that good since the 90's. Lsu is a very good program. and Florida just lost half of there defense they will not be good this year. Arkansas is good to but they will fold. As for the rest of the conference who is there? Alabama? kentucky? Vanderbuilt ( the one year wonder)?

as For last year Florida had a loss before the championship game and had USC not lost to UCLA they probably deserved the chance at Ohio State.

The only reason the Sec is always in the national championship picture is because they don't schedule any real out of conference games like Ohio state vs. Texas. and they beat up on the bad squads in there conference kentucky, mississipi state etc.

It's kinda hard for you to make that argument when USC whopped Michigan in the Rose bowl 32-18. If you saw that game you can clearly tell which is the better team. Its just unfortunate that USC lost to UCLA. Otherwise USC would've won the national title against Ohio St.

I'd say no, because look at the head to head match-ups in this season and bowl season:

Michigan played Vanderbilt and won
Penn State played Tennessee and won
Wisconsin played Arkansas and won
Ohio st. played Florida and lost

so that is 3-1 in favor of the Big 10.

Granted SEC did win the national championship, but the had a losing record against the lowly Big 10.

there's no valid argument that the sec isn't the best. there's always about 6 or 7 ranked teams, and usually 4 or 5 in the top 12 every year. and they have the best recruits down here. head to head against other conferences its proven to be the best, especially in the past 5 years.

I think the SEC is the best conference in college football. To get out of the SEC east unblemished is a feat in itself. If you are in the SEC east, you have to play Tennessee, Georgia, Florida every year. If you survive your division, then you have to win your championship game to get to the BCS title game.

In 2006 I think the SEC clearly was the best conference, in 2004 the year you brought up with Auburn I don't think they were, it was a down year for the conference it happens from time to time.

I know I always say put facts in your opinion but i got nothing here for you except...I have lived in Florida recently and the only people in the Nation who care about SEC live down south.
Say what you want...if it was all that good...people would notice.
