There's a beautiful story in Islam... that at the end of this life you may chose to spend eternity with the lover you most loved, if they too agree. So for every "impossible" love there is hope, however distant, however odd or strange to those who do not believe in it.
There may not be love in the end of EVERY journey but I believe and hope there in ONE love at the end of the most important -here, as well as in the hereafter.

Your journey to find that other person ends. But life is a journey, a constant journey. So yes, you've got it right. After you experience your "lovers meeting" then the both of you will take the journey together. As one. For a while we tend to think that our end is in another person. But after we find that other person we realize that that's not our end, it's only the beginning. They then travel life's journeys hand in hand, but still traveling. We won't stop in this life.
