we are almost 60 games into the season and no doubt there's still a lot of baseball left. Will roger make that big a difference against the sox. is anyone tired of hearing that it's "still early"?

No.

They will be very lucky to finish ahead of Tampa Bay for last place.

The yanks have a ton of talent, so if anyone was going to make a big comeback i would say that it would be the yanks. But the big issue is that they have no pitching to speak of, what good does it do you when you score 5 runs a game, but you give up 7 a game. Roger will help some, but there staff is so old and they have really used there bullpen a lot already. I don't really see them making up so much ground, but it is very early still, but if they are more then 15 games back by the all-star break then i think you can count them out for sure.

I don't know if Clemens will make that BIG a difference but, it will be a lift. The pitching staff "seems" to be getting healthly and the offense is a time bomb waiting to explode for at least 6 runs a game.

As of today the East lead is 10 games and the Red Sox seem to be having trouble of their own. The question is can the Red Sox sustain the level of play for the next 3 months because it is a matter of time when their rash of injuries come as it does for every team.

The Wild card at least for now is the best secenario (6 games) but anything can still happen.

I'm a yankees fan and my perfect secenario would play out like this:

The AL East would come down to the last day and would be determined in a 1 game playoff (ala 1978).

Clemens vs. Schilling....

Yankees Win 5-4 and clinch the East on a 3-run shot by Alex "Bleeping" Rodriguez, oh by the way the MVP as well.

With this team I do not think that anything is out of the realm of possibility. Remember there is a saying that goes something like this "every team will win 54 games and every team will lose 54 games, but it is what you do with the other 54 that really matters" Also Yankee great Yogi Berra made the obvious statement "you are not out of it until you have been mathematically eliminated" last I checked no one has been mathematically eliminated therefore I would say that the Yankees do still have a shot at making a comeback

I used to be the biggest yankee fan until the Sheffield Curse. How do you trade your most consistant hitter in the past three years? Looks to me like the yankees are now cursed, they traded away, 1. Sheffield 2. J.Contreras 3. EL Duque and all are doing great, not to mention they felt it was Bernie Williams time to go, so yup they are bound to lose for the next 80 years. Rule Number 1: Dont trade Sheffield!

For the Yankees to make a run at this they need to be within 4-5 games at the break and then chip away at it from then on
Clemens greatest asset to this team would be if he was able to give them 7 inning and a good chance of winning every fifth day.

Yup, it's already starting, red sox have lost 5 of 6 and yankees have won 5 of 7.

1978 take 2.

IT is a long season, so anything can happen. So yes, it's still early enough for them to stage a comeback. The all-star break is a momentum killer for some teams, and don't be surprised if they turn it around in July or August.

No!! No!! It is not "still early." AND Clemens will make no difference as he continues to grab headlines and yank the chain of the Yankees and their fans. I mean WHEN will he pitch?? Will he pitch?? Will he go to games?? Will he travel with the team?? Will he continue to draw a huge salary for doing NOTHING?? Will we fans EVER be rid of this self-adoring, pathetic excuse for a human being??

Chow!!

there has only been one to come back from this far behind and win it. But since there is a wild card they might not need to have boston have a complete collapes. But their pitching is on the DL, Clemmons won't make that much of change by himself. Other then their catcher, they aren't hitting that much either. They would need a lot of help from more then one team to make the playoffs at this point, and I think it is way too much.
