Why did you not ask at the pet shop?

I think the species you have is the green-spotted puffer, although they're often sold under the name of "leoplard" because of their spots. See the photo and info in this link: http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/ug.php/v/PufferPedia/Brackish/T_Nigroviridis/

They are a brackish fish, meaning they need to have some sea salt in the water, but not as high of a concentration as ocean water. If he's in freshwater right now, add a teaspoon or two of salt PER GALLON each week till you get the salinity up to 1.015 (you'll need a hydrometer to measure this).

They'll eat a variety of foods, mostly shrimp, clam, squid, and the like, but you'll need to offer some shrimp and snails with the shells on so he can keep the beak trimmed down. If the beak grows to large, the fish can't feed properly and might eventually starve.

Spenncer, please heed my advice and DO NOT consider buying any more pets of ANY species.

You're obviously not prepared to take on the responsibility, since you have no clue as to their needs or more importantly, the environment they need to live in.

I've never heard of anyone purchasing an aquarium fish and not knowing before hand whether or not it goes into a fresh water or a marine tank...
I wouldn't be surprised if by this time the poor creature is already dead.
One thing you were right about...you are oblivious.

**Sigh** Yes, you should have done your homework...but I just got one, too, so...

Leopards are also known as "Freshwater Puffers." Try putting a little salt in the tank. Not too much. But a little.

The guy at the pet store I got mine from fed them tropical fish flake food. But they also eat shrimp.

Email me if you have any more questions...and do yours change colors? Daelan (my puffy =]) changed black, white, and orange. Not to mention green, but that's what he was origianally.

Call the pet shop NOW to find out what sort of water the poor thing requires. Putting a fish in the wrong sort of water will kill it in a VERY big hurry.

Better yet, take it back to the store and get your money back; you should NEVER purchase a fish before you have the appropriate tank set-up waiting for it in its new home.

You seriously bought a puffer fish and don't know a thing about it? Did your parents let you do this or did you just decide on your own?

I can't help myself...
That is just stupid, thoughtless, irresponsible... hmm what else.
Are you one of those people who had to get a dalmation when the 101 dalmation movie came out and then found out they weren't what you wanted and returned them to the pound?!!?

Or the Christmas / birthday pet giver?!

Progressing to be the parent without a job, house or food for the kid?

Plan ahead kid... a fish is a life too!

What the hell, they may take it back after it dies and replace it about the time you get the tank set up!

alright, DON'T listen to the people here and quickly add salt water.

Do it slowly and they prefer brackish water (mix between fresh and salt not much salt)

They will definitely eat blood worms, freeze dried shrimp, ghost shrimp and dry worms. Anything crunchy and any they they can fit in their mouth even other fish.

This is all i can think of at the moment.

Their are LOTS AND LOTS of sites on this fish, just search "Green Spotted Puffer" on google.

Puffers are brackish water fish. You should have checked on this before you bought the fish, and the seller should have discussed it with you.
Try a general internet search, I just did and there was tons of info.

nicely, each and every physique have been given right here first. yet there is many fish that try this. particular Catfish can definitely proceed to exist in brackish exceedingly a lot, considered one of my pals has a honey hollow for white cats purely like a mile from the sea. We pass generally. no longer something enormous comes from right here although merely little ones, purely caught one enormous one over 2 lbs. I advise its technically greater clean than salt yet despite, close adequate. exciting certainty reason your a catfisherman-each and every EEL you have ever caught replaced into as quickly as in North carolina in the sea. Then made a astounding journey to finally finally end up someplace in a pond, river or lake. meaning any eel you caught might desire to be brother or sister or maybe destiny mate of the eels I even have caught. Eels are astounding species a lot of human beings forget. they might holiday underground, overland, or everywhere else. they might land exceedingly a lot everywhere and proceed to exist. My neighbor has a ditch in her backyard that she famous eels in now and lower back. Its linked to a river sorta so thats why. yet those eels flow a street to get to it. Thats why I shared this in order that somebody else can proportion my love for those slimy creatures.
