Porn is generally safer and controlled against the spread of disease and in a controlled environment.
Prostitution is generally done on the corner. These women are usually driven there by disease and drugs.
I think it's more about the cicumstances than it is about the actual act itself.

It's all about taxes.
A prostitute makes money and gets to keep all of it, while individuals in porn get paid a set wage for the hour or two they 'worked' while their videos are taxed for the duration of time.

Because it is forbidden to approach someone to provide such service, but in the case of a movie, it just doesn't apply as they are considered "artists"...

In pornography, the people are treated as actors and what they do is considered acting. Though there are further restrictions, it is a form of entertainment, and thereby exempt.

I have never heard it was legal to pay other people to have sex with each other.
Prostitution is legal in some places, such as Nevada. Most places consider it a vice and make it illegal.
