I live in San Diego, and it's a great place to live. They don't call it America's Finest City for nothing. The views are fantastic, and it's still a big town though it's not as giant as LA. We have Sea World, Legoland, The World Famous San Diego Zoo, Belmont Park, Soak City, and the Wild Animal Park here. We're also only 2 hours away from LA/Anaheim/Disneyland. Rent and housing prices are pretty high though anywhere in Cali. I love San Diego though despite high prices. It's a great place where there are many beaches and good surf locations, if you're into surfing. Downtown there are also many restaurants/bars/nightlife/clubs in the Gaslamp if you're into that. If you have any more questions about San Diego, just message me and I'd be glad to help!
Hope this helped!

Oxnard is kind of mixed. Right on the water/harbor it is expensive, but there are some cheap neighborhoods. Regrettably, though, they tend to be dangerous. If you really want the beach, and you're willing to go a little smaller, I'd check out Pismo Beach, which is cheap but not close enough to the really big cities, as it's in central California. There's also Ventura, north of LA, which has some fabulous hillsides overlooking the water, but a two-bedroom apartment might go for $1,300 a month or so.

California is one of the most expensive states there is to live in. Beach property is considered prime real estate, and is the MOST expensive. You're not going to find anything near the beach that's cheap.
Before you ever think about moving here, come out for a few days, and find out first hand what living here is really like. It's not at all like what you see on T.V.

Expect to pay $500-1000 to *share* a place, pretty much anywhere that's within walking distance of the beach.
Will your work dictate where you'll live, or are you a waiter/etc that you can do most anywhere? Just saying "California" covers a pretty big area - about 800 miles of coastline.
