the chihuahua and the pit bulls get along fine, they all get along, but you do have to keep a close eye on the ferret and the rabbit cause the dogs play ruff, i have a 3 bedroom hom with a good sized yard so there is plenty off room for everyone, and between me, my husband, and my 2 kids lots of love. and I don't mind taking care of them, I'm a stay at home mom and I enjoy taking care of eberyone.

If your pets are well fed and housed and well-loved all your family I would say you haven't got too many but getting more might be different.

In my case I have 2 cats, a dog and 7 chooks. When the children were samall wealso had 2 budgies and lots of guinea pigs.

Trouble is when the kids leave home and you and your husband want to go away for a few days who feeds the animals???? I hate asking the neighbours so we don't go away together too often. This situation isn't perfect but I can't do anything else at the moment.

Think of yourself 5 -10 years down the track,.

My husband says, the more animals you have the less attention the others get. Yes you have too many. For one thing rabbits are prey to ferrets + snakes. This can be very traumatizing to a very nervous animal. The dogs barking probably stress the rabbit out too. If you want pets, what you should do is get the kinds that will match + get along. Like I was saying the ferret + snake aren't good to have around a rabbit. do any of them get to run free ? Rabbits need some free space too. Do your breed of dogs get along with small animals. Hunting dogs have the instinct to hunt, again the rabbit + also the ferret.
All pets should be non-agressive breeds, the snake can be aggressive when its hungry.
Did you know that wild ferrets hunt + eat rabbits ?
Before you get any pets, do research on them + see what kind of characteristics they have. For ex. hunting dogs or Jack russells wouldn't go well with small animals. They are sporting dog breeds.
Get pets that have something in common, birds eat birdfood, plus pets that have been raised among these small animals won't look at them as their next lunch. Snakes not included. Choose just as you would in your aquarium. Fish who like swimming in the upper part of tank wont get along with another breed of fish who also likes doing this. You simply get 1 type who likes the bottom, another who likes the middle + the 3rd kind that is a bottom swimmer. Or select all passive fish, tetras, guppies,
mollies, etc.

For that size dogs, a person should have at least a 1/2 acre or more for them to run on. It would be very positive if all the animals are spayed/neutered and in a fenced in yard. If the cats are not living inside, they are eating and destroying a lot of wildlife. Think about building them an enclosure to go in and out of so they are not free outside.

Dont worry about it! You know you have too many pets when you forget about one of them and forget to feed the. I personally have a saltwater reef tank, two leapord geckos, an agama(like bearded dragon), a green basilisk, 3 parakeets, a millipede, 4 turtles, two fire bellied toads, a green tree frog, a leapord frog, an african bull pixie frog, a tarantula, and a rabbit, a mudskipper, and a tokay gecko. Believe me, i get the same comments from friends. I love all my animals though, and take care of them all just as i would a child. Like i said, dont worry about it. Pets are fun and a great part of a family! Hell, get more pets! ( i reccommend iguanas, great fun)!

Wow it sounds so wonderful. As long as your family and the animals get along well then all is fine. It's nice to see so many animals of different species playing and interacting harmoniously together. Studies have also shown that children who grow up living with pets tend to be more social and compassionate people. They also tend to have more common sense and reasoning ablilites.

It depends on where you live. If you live in a small house with a tiny yard, then yeah, you have too many pets. If you live in a large house with miles of land then you are fine. As long as there's enough love and attention to go around

If you're very well off financially and can afford the best care for every animal, you're probably fine.

How do you keep the pit bulls from eating the chihuahua?

If you have to ask, then you probably feel like you have too many. Why compare yourself to others? Isn't that the fun of being an adult? You can have the animals you want, you can buy the house you want, you can paint your walls purple if you feel like it. As long as the things you choose are legal and not hurting anyone......do what makes you happy.
