it sounds bizarre but I have done it and it works. get a metal spoon and under running water rub your hands together with the spoon (like soap ) for a minute or two- the smell will be gone. I don't know how it works or why but it does

There is quite a few ways to remove the smell of onions on your hands, try using back of stainless steel spoon while washing your hands after chopping onions

Or you can add Baking soda to your liquid soap while washing your hands after chopping onions, just sprinkle baking soda in your hands and apply liquid or bar soap and rub your hands together for twenty to thirty seconds, then rinse in the hottest water you can stand

You can also pour some White Vinegar on your hands while washing with your favorite soap, use above method for baking soda for washing instructions.

Toothpaste will also remove the onion odors, just squirt some on your hand and rub as you would soap and rinse in hottest water you can handle

Good Luck !

What a shame. And so unnecessary!
Here's what I do:
after doing with the onion and the peelings what you will, you run a bit of hot water in a bowl or a pan and add dish soap; then you add stainless steel flatware to the water and you wash it with a rag and your fingers...
I used to think that my Mom was just trying to get me to wash the flatware, but she swore that stainless steel took the onion odor from your hands. It worked! I still do this after cutting up onions, and it's never failed me.
Another fix: lemon juice from a fresh lemon.

If you have some aromatherapy oils at home, you can apply a few drops on your onion-smell hand for a few minutes to get rid of the the smell. Hope the info helps.

Rub your hands with lemon juice and baking soda. This will eliminate the odor. Use fresh lemon. Cut a lemon in quarters, place baking soda in the palm of your hand and rub it all over using the lemon to make it stick. Let it sit on your hands for at least 1 minutes and rinse it all off.

Rub your hands well over anything that is stainless steel. Removes onion, fish, or any other yucky smells!

Oh I hate that! I finally started buying kitchen gloves (disposable) and put them on whenever I cut up onions now. Just a tip. :)

Lemon juice or vanilla extract works well for me, but the lemon juice seems to work better and is less expensive. However, if my hands are dry and chaffed, the vanilla is less painful.
