I dont know. I'm actually getting chills just reading other peoples answers on this! I'm sooo afraid of spiders! One time there was a spider on my window in the car and I nearly jumped right into my husbands lap while he was driving! I wouldnt move until my brother in law in the back seat reached up and killed it. And then I felt all itchy and stuff because I always feel like that after I see a spider. Plenty of other scary spider stories too (scary to me anyway). I have absolutely no idea why I'm scared of them!

Did you know that you are always within 4 feet of a spider? Anywhere, on the entire planet! What makes them scarier is the fact that some are poisonous and they can run fast! I like that they eat smaller bugs. We'd have lots of them if not for spiders. I can deal with spiders....it's the mice that flip me out....

We are often most afraid of what we don't know. One of the few things we believe about spiders is that they are harmful by their bite and venom. Since all spiders are hunters, they are often laying in wait, which gives them that creepy stalking look we associate with predators, like lions or hyenas. Since we use our visual sense for defense and protection, it's our nature to see them as stalking us. If you have ever touched a spiders web, and had it charge forward, you know what I'm talking about. Even the tiniest spider climbing toward us can send chills up the spine of the bravest of souls.

Because some spiders have venom that can kill a full grown human. I got bit by an unidentified spider ten years ago and I still have a large lump of scar tissue that occasionally bursts open and stuff comes out.

Probably because they have many "hairy" legs and several eyes. Most people portray them as scary creatures, such as those in horror flicks. It all depends on the person. We all have our fears. Like this one lady for example, she was terrified of fur coats.
It also could be because people say they are poisonous. So people think all spiders will kill you because they have some slight toxin.

Don't you mean "Why are spiders so scary TO ME?"?
Spiders aren't scary to me, I'm a country girl, grew up with lots of them around, lots of black widows and many other types all over the yard and often in the house. Still live on that property, still have lots of spiders - although not so many black widows because I hunt them down and kill them. Sometimes if someone is there to 'show off' for I'll just slap the black widow to crush it. Their teeth are on the underside, so if I hit them hard and quick it's perfectly safe. You actually have to really pick on them and piss them off to get them to try and bite. Spiders will pretty much only bite in defense, like if you accidently roll over on them or something. They won't attack or chase you or anything so if you just don't touch them you're fine.
Trust me, the spiders are MUCH more scared of YOU than you are of them.
Oh, and here's a bit of spider trivia to think about at bedtime...spiders drink out of your eyes while you are sleeping... Happy dreams!

EUW!
Think about how those eight legs move, in that sinuous, crawling motion.
and they are all so ugly! Smooth or furry and with all those eyes! I mean really, who needs so many eyes!!!
And what about the fact that they always pop up in bad places?
Like just above your head, in your shoes or even in the bath!!
And of course spiders are poisonous. Some can kill you and others deform you for life!
And they are everywhere!!!
So yeah, spiders are not my favorite creature either!

It's not the actual spider most people fear. It's the web they cast.. We are afraid to get ensnared in it...And spiders just remind us of that fact (being trapped0

They're not scary to me, but I'd be scared or afraid if I was getting "bit" by a deadly one!-(black Widow, etc.)
