Ex-POW tells Glamour she still gets hate mail
June 7, 2007
The Associated Press
NEW YORK — Former prisoner of war Jessica Lynch still receives hate mail, four years after her capture and long after publicly disputing the military’s exaggerated accounts of her capture and rescue in Iraq.
The former Army private from Palestine, W.Va., was severely injured and 11 other soldiers killed when their convoy was ambushed in Nasiriyah in 2003. Lynch, one of six soldiers captured, was later rescued by American troops from an Iraqi hospital, but the military’s account of the ambush embellished her role to make it sound more heroic.
Lynch, who testified before Congress in April, has received some 30,000 letters from people across the country. While most are from supporters, there are plenty of critics.
“People say, ‘You didn’t do anything in Iraq.’ Sometimes I think I’m the most hated person in America,” she told Glamour magazine for the July issue appearing on newsstands June 12.

“Nobody likes to believe the military would mislead people,” Lynch told the magazine. “But they wanted a war hero so badly that they portrayed me as one. They didn’t get their facts straight before talking about what happened, and neither did the media. They said I went down guns blazing, like Rambo — but I never fired a shot because my rifle had jammed.
“They later corrected the story, but I’m still paying the price,” she said.
“I loved the military,” she said, “and would probably still be serving if things had gone differently.”

She was caught between a rock and a hard place. Again, the Bush administration spin machine put a different look on the truth on this situation, as has been with many instances on both war fronts. It is a shame when stories have to be stretched or manufactured to produce heroes when in essence all who serve are heroes anyway. It also reflects upon the character of this White House. Shady, at best.

i'm hoping she does yet from each and all of the political analysts that I even have heard from in the present day have pronounced that she could flow after the e book bargains, action picture supplies, radio requests, etc. so i do no longer think of she would manage to disappear constantly. I mean judging via how long she has been interior the information she has a characteristic of being persistant and to quit basically out of nowhere and basically provide up seems to be like out of character for this reason I doubt she would manage to stay out of politics for long. If she does return no one will vote for her. She is a poor candidate, she would manage to fail miserably! Down with Palin!

The woman did nothing wrong! She stood face to face with the enemy. her friend was killed and she was severely injured. Moreover, she wasn't much more than a child!
Perhaps some was not correctly reported, but I would rather be standing there with a weapon that works, than one which didn't! Much is not correctly reported. Tune to Fox news 24/7!
People who give her grief are the dishonorable one, like she had some damn choice while she was drifting in and out of a coma!
Why are there so many kooks in America?
She is an honorable woman and I would have her in any unit in the US Army.. Leave her the hell alone!

Another example of the Mayberry Machiavellis embracing hatred as a family value.

TIME OUT ! TIME OUT ! EVERYBODY ! Lets think about this. Its not left vs right, its right vs wrong. This Soldier did what she could with what she had at the time. I challange anyone to put themsleves in her boots at that time, to feel the fear, the shroud of combat and to honestly tell me that they would do the different. Circumstances are what they are. I for one do not knock her for hers. We should all just be thankful she is alive and able to tell HER side of the story.......

Wow, doesn't Southern Belle have an 'interesting' point of view? Perhaps something in the water...? Or perhaps she pasted in the answer for a totally different question?

I don't think it's her fault...it's the stupid feminists' fault, they are the ones who dramatized the situation because they wanted a woman war hero so badly! I mean, I support the military and the troops, but I think that if women want to be in the military they should be in noncombat positions. Those positions need to be freed up for men who are stronger and more able to fight (so the military doesn't have to lower their standards just so women can join, instead of requiring them to be held to the higher standards required of men!).

she wasn't used and she knew she wasn't a "hero" going in. She went right along with the media/white house agenda and managed to parlay that BS into a multi million $ movie and book deal, so I don't want to hear shtt about poor little Private Lynch.

That's the right-wing lunatic fringe for you.
They can't bring themselves to face the fact that Bush is a pathological liar so they blame his victims for telling the truth about him.
