Cupcakes are little cakes. They are made w/ cake mix, and have frosting. Muffins are like mini breads. They can be made with bread mixes, like cornbread muffins, or banana nut muffins.

A cupcake is made out of cake mix and is usually frosted. A muffin is usually healthier, made with wheat, fruit or bran, and isn't frosted.
