say you beat the first guy, but die later. do you keep all the exp? or what happens? does money get taken away?

you keep the experience, but you lose money. Once you lose, you have to start all over again =O
best way to beat the system is to waste all your money on revives and full restores before you loser your money in those battles!

It is not a game over. You lose and you are taken back to the pokemon center. You keep the experience you earned and money. You have to pay small amount of money, if you lose, based on the level of your party. I remember that at lv 45ish, I paid only 5 k. Now at 60, I am paying around 6 k.
