Christy Mathewson for Amos Rusie, December 15, 1900
In 1900, the Cincinnati Reds thought they were getting a terrific pitcher in Rusie, who had won 241 games for New York before the turn of the century. Mathewson went on to win 373 games, all but one for the New York Giants. Rusie never won a game for the Reds.
Jeff Bagwell for Larry Andersen, August 30, 1990
Anderson went on to pitch 22 innings for the Red Sox while Bagwell was a Rookie of the Year in 1991, was the 1994 National League MVP, and is surely headed to the Hall of Fame.

The worst!
When the Seattle Mariners traded Jason Varitek & Derek Lowe for Heathcliff Slocumb. Slocumb was horrible on the Red Sox and was even worse when he got the M's. Varitek & Lowe would later help the Red Sox win their first World Series since 1918.
But the first person also made a good point. San Francisco trading away Boof Bonser, Francisco Liriano & Joe Nathan for A.j. Pierzynski & cash looks really bad. A.j played for just one season in SF, while Bonser, Liriano and Nathan were all big contributers to the Twins winning the division last year and will be big contributers for years to come.

Being a Mariners fan, I would say (for the Mariners) it is Ken Phelps to the Yankees for Jay Buhner. You don't hear that one too often, but it was a steal for the Mariners.
Overall, Milt Pappas to the Reds from the Orioles for Frank Robinson. Robby won the Triple Crown the next season, and the O's won the Series twice in the six years he played there. He also hit 586 HRs lifetime, without any extra junk, unlike a certain Giants punk out there today. . . .

My team (the Phillies) have been on the wrong end of many lopsided trades over the years. Too numerous to mention, actually. There have been a few good ones, though:
Steve Carlton from the Cardinals for Rick Wise
Curt Schilling from the Astros for Jason Grimsley
Bobby Abreu from the Devil Rays for Kevin Stocker

As a braves fan the worst trade (in my life time) was Ken Barker, for Rick Behenna, Brook Jacoby, PTNL, and $150K. Barker won 1 game in '83, 7 games in '84, 2 games in '85 10 games in 3 years!!!!ok 2 1/2.
Behenna didnt do much so ok.
Jacoby hit most of his 120 homers in Cleveland and played from 84-91 for them, with a .405 slugging per. with .270 batting ave.
The player to be name later? Bret Butler, there lead off man for 4 years, all star, played til '97 too many other things that he did.

Dan Haren, Kiko Calero and Daric Barton for Mark Mulder.
Haren's definitely been a stud so far and would have more wins if the offense could help him; Calero was pretty good last year and Barton hasn't shown anything yet. On the other hand, Mulder has been erratic and plagued with injuries.

Cubs trading George Bell to the WhiteSox for a young Sammy Sosa...and more recently Hee Seop Choi for D-Lee.
And of course Boston's brilliant deal with the Yanks.

Check out the trades that got Francisco Liriano and Joe Nathan where they're at. Those are pretty lopsided. BRIAN SABEAN IS THE BIGGEST IDIOT IN THE HISTORY OF MLB.

Milt Pappas for Frank Robinson.
Milt Pappas did win 200 games in his career whilenever winning 20 in a season. He was a good, consistent pitcher.
But Frank Robinson went on to be a superstar.
