Or has anyone else noticed that the bullies or villains in children's movies or shows are disproportionately redheads, overweight, or both. I noticed this a few years ago and have paid closer attention since. This is just a short list below that I thought of off the top of my head, but I could go on. Please spare me with the positive redhead and overweight characters in movies. Duh, I'm not saying its all movies and characters, but it just to me seems to be a common typecast for that type of character. I'm just curious to know why, if anyone has any theories. Are redheads and fat people supposed to be mean or scary or something? I missed the memo.
A Pup Named Scooby Doo-redhead
Little Rascals (1994)-redhead
Everybody Hates Chris-redhead/overweight
How to Eat Fried Worms-redhead
A Christmas Story-redhead
Bring it on-redhead
Mean Creek-overweight
Billy Madison-overweight/redhead
Norbit-overweight

Spots, lol, its not that crucial sweetheart. Excuse me for saying FAT how politically incorrect of me, I should have said horizontally gifted, get over it. My reasoning for asking the question had nothing to do with inciting hate or advocating for redheads or overweight people. I had just watched two movies with my kids and in both films the villain happened to be a redhead. I asked the question out of boredom and curiosity. Chill out, its just Yahoo!Answers.

Interesting. I would say that because red is associated with blood and fire (sometimes conjuring Hell in some people's imaginations) it would be the color to use on a villain. Some African tribes shun the rare redhead who is born into the tribe because of the rare color, but also because the men view red hair as symbolic with menstruation, believing (wrongly) that the child will grow up to be a witch. Perhaps the same reason that redheads are also typecast as whores (Pretty Woman, anyone?) Seems this kind of stereotyping only happens to women though. Which sucks, because I'm a bottle redhead lol.

I have noticed the overweight villains before today, but not the red heads! I will watch out for a while.

Interesting question.

I don't know if red hair and/or overweight is meant to be scary, but creating characters in a certain way continually does have an effect on how those types of people are viewed in real life, so it is an important question.

Thanks for being so observant and noticing this, it has given me something to think about!

Good luck :-)

What that says is that every person who is in disagreement with the truth or right side of justice and the way things ought to be, should be seen as the typical opposite of what is mostly the norm seen in our society as the people who occupy this country. For an example; the norm or I should say the so called norm, is thin bathing suit model body as the american woman, the opposite of that is fat and mean and ugly in every sense of the thought!
The average american is not a redhead, infact the message being sent is be aware of them who are not like us!

Hello my freind, its always nice to encounter your questions and gain new insight into the mind of roni....Great question! don't sweat the small minded, pray that that they are enlightened one day to see beyond themselves and answer a question for what it is, just a question and not a message of hate and bullying, they ought to pay close attention to the media and what they are programming themselves with and seek an answer to the riddle within themselves as regards why must that question cause them to take it as a personal message pit against them alone as if the world was incapable of looking past their sorrowful thoughts of themselves...
This wisdom is bigger than you and I or any one or two people. Collectively we can defeat the true villians who would have us believe that we are to be vulnerable to key words such as fat, skinny, stank, b@#ch, slut, black, white, the n word, red head, blond, or brunette...

Glad i'm not the only one who noticed it. Overweight people are always either the bullies or the losers. Redheads are always either bullies or losers. It is NOT COINCIDENCE.

I think you missed the time-honored:"I will beat you like a red-headed stepchild, and Better dead than red on the head." I agree. In real life, not fictitious characters, I think males have it worse than females. Some men mistakenly believe that red-headed women are more passionate, so that buys women a little slack, unless they are over-weight.

Okay. I'm not sure what your purpose for bringing this up was, so I can't directly accusing you of stirring hate. So let me ask you this...are you going to be one of the first to advocate red-head rights? I KNOW you won't advocate for overweight people because they are the victim dejour in todays society. Yesterday it was smokers. The day before that it was minorities. The day before that it was the Jewish people. This society has to hate SOMEONE all the time. People are natural born haters. And if you picked up on this, then youre looking for someone to hate as well. "Fat people"? Insensitive and crude. So now lets gather the screaming bleeding hearts and create an advocacy group for the improper way the red-heads are portrayed in the movies. It worked for everyone else...why not us too?

Yeah, redheaded guys are pretty rancid in general. Can't say the same for redheaded women...

Perhaps it's the stereotype "red headed stepchild"?
