spring football is a time when you compete to find out your position and team that your going to be on. it's a time to show off what you gained through offseason. at my school it lasts about 3 weeks.

Its like the last 2 weeks of school theres practice and anyone can join. Anyone interested of playing next year. There coaches let you pick what you wanna play and u train for that position and the last day Friday, theres usually a game among teammates they divide the whole team into 2 then play each other. this is for people that are interested to play football in the next school year also info is given about summer work outs and such. Thats why you cant join footbal once school starts cause there are pre season workouts and all that..
so spring football is basically practicing to see what position you best fit in, then in august thats when it really begins.

Don't wait until next season. Find the head coach or the appropriate position coach and let him know that you're interested in making the team. Ask him for advice regarding what you should be doing between now and spring try outs (or whenever they are where you live). Also make it very clear to every coach that have access to that you would consider it to be an honor to play special teams. Special Teams is probably your best shot for making the team because that's all heart and hustle. Keep your grades up and be a model student. It wouldn't hurt if you knew somebody that was already on the team that you could use as a work out partner.

Most states do not allow high schools to have an organized spring football practice. It is predominately a college thing.

In Miami it can be longer than football season. It starts in Jan with weight training along with weekly meetings for offense/defense and positions you're "trying out" for. By Feb, you're running sprints, dashes, etc. In March you start competing for the position(s) you want to play and it gives the coaches a chance to see talent. By April the coaches make decisions and place players in positions and continue practicing (with helmets, no pads) but with the players at their positions. Late April/Early May, full-on contact practice with pads and scrimmages between the offense and defense. Then the fun begins and you invite, or are invited, to a scrimmage with 3 other local high school teams and play for one half and watch the other teams play.

spring football is where you train and practice for the regular football season.

Colleges have spring football, but it is just practices and scrimaging amoungst themselves rather than playing other schools. I didn't know high schools did it also. They don't here in NJ.
