A few months ago I bought a white datura or Horn of Plenty, Devil's Horn, or Thornapple. We live in Houston Texas and we have had loads of rain lately. Yesterday it looked dead flowers and leaves the only thing still alive were the spiny seed pods. I ended up digging it up and put it back in it original pot. I dont think it will be comeing back. But with the seed pods still busting and spreading seed I want to know what happened so I don't make the same mistake next year. And does anybody have any tips on the best way to handle these seeds?

It's an annual. When allowed to go to seed, the plant has done its procreation job and will die. Collect the seeds if you want more. To prevent the plant's demise in the future, dead head, prevents seed formation, causes the plant to produce more flowers.

You should be able to plant the seeds and get more plants - it's early in Houston yet, so you might even get another one this summer.

Be aware that Datura ("Jimson weed") seeds are potent hallucinogens, and keep them out of the reach of small fingers and pets!
