Your waist is just above your belly button, usually there is a curve inward. Your hips are at the top of your legs basically, where they meet the pelvis.

I assume that you are asking where you should measure yourself to obtain the properly sized jeans. Your waist is in the middle of your torso, generally at the slimmest point, if you possess an "hour glass" shape; if not, use a median measurement. Hips are easier; measure over widest portion, usually that would be around your hip bones and derriere. Still, you are taking a chance ordering on-line, so make certain that the company will allow you to return the jeans if they should fail to fit comfortably or exactly. Good luck!

Waist = find the top of the bones on the right and left side where you place your hands when you are telling someone off (iliac crest). Just above that is where your waist is (right about the level of your belly-button).

Hips = Go down a few inches from your waist until you feel the bones that stick out at the side the most, at the place where you think the top of your legs are (greater trochanter).

Your waist is the smallest part of your tummy, usually slightly above the belly button. If you stand in front of a mirror and bend to the side, where you see a crease form is your waistline.

Your hips are the bones just above the top of your thighs. When measuring your hips, you include the fullest part of your buttocks....please don't ask me where your buttocks are! lol

waist is aligned with your belly button. hips is 7" down your waist.
but if the pants is "low waisted", it won't be the same as the measurement of your waistline. you have to know how long the crotch / zipper of the pants is to get the right measurement.

Your waist is the smallest part [ narrowest from the front ] of your torso.
Your hip measurement is around the biggest part of your butt.
