I'm moving from North Carolina to Texas for a new job with JP Morgan. I will be working in Fort Worth but I am considering living in Dallas. I'm not familiar with the area but I hear that the traffic can get pretty bad. Is a commute from Dallas to Fort Worth realistic or should I just try to find a place in Fort Worth?? I want to live somewhere that I can have a lot of fun. I'm a young guy/23 and I want to have an exciting social life. I know I will be very homesick so I want to have a lot of fun to keep me from missing home so much. Which city has the most for a young man to enjoy? I want to enjoy a nice night life and dating scene. Please give your educated opinion on which city would be a better fit for my situation. The social scene and the commute are the only deciding factors for me really. Only pick one city and try to sell me on why it's better than the other. This will really help me make a choice. And please suggest where I should live in whatever city you choose. Thanks :-)

Unless you want to spend a lot of time commuting, live in Ft. Worth. The 40 mile drive would get expensive too, I hope you drive a Prius.
There are some cool places close to the museum district. Sundance Square in downtown Ft. Worth has lots of bars, clubs and restaurants so that would provide midweek entertainment. The suburbs suck in terms of entertainment, except for Addison and parts of Arlington. Suburbs are good for families, but not if you're young and want to go out.
You can drive to Dallas on the weekends and enjoy their nightlife.

Seems like you're an urban type of guy looking for an urban type of lifestyle... based on that, I say stick with Dallas for the social life and catch the TRE (www.dart.org) from downtown Dallas to downtown Fort Worth for your daily commute.

I live in a loft in downtown Dallas and I'm lovin it, location is everthing. I've just been fortunate that my job is only a 7 minute walk (1-1/2 block away) and I don't have to worry about this whole commuting thing. There's plenty to do here in Dallas, especially the nightlife. Other than the Fort Worth Sundance Square (which I wish we had one in Dallas), there's nothing else that attracts me personally to that social scene. I'm sure it's got its pros/cons but I can't further explain on that. On the other hand, Dallas is the bigger booming city. Plenty of nightlife in Downtown Dallas, Uptown, West Village, Victory Park, Deep Ellum, West End, Mockingbird Area, Lower Greenville and even Addison... plenty to do...

Now if you're the suburban type of guy, then you may consider Fort Worth then; the drive from a Dallas Suburb to Fort Worth will make you pull out your hair. This will make it easier on your job, but what about the nightlife??

Definitely Dallas; it has a more hip place for the young crowd. Consider it.

I lived in FW for 2 years & loved the area! The nightlife is a little more laid back, but still fun. If you like Texas country music, you will definately like FW! The Sundance Square is the downtown nightlife for FW. You can park & barhop from there. It is lots of fun! I am a laid back, have a beer or two kind of girl, so it was perfect for me! There are some nice restaraunts & a comedy club downtown too. I lived near Keller, which is about 10-15 min. from Sundance Sq.

By the way the traffic is bad & getting worse! I would not recommend commuting from Dallas to FW. Gas is outrageous & it could take you about 1-2 hrs., depending on where your'e commuting from! Good luck with your move!

Commuting between Dallas and Fort Worth is a LONG haul with the traffic. I lived in that area for 22 years, and I very much prefer Fort Worth to Dallas. Dallas may have more "trendy" things, but Fort Worth is a good city to raise kids in, and simply have a LIFE. Unless you want to spend at LEAST two hours each way in the car, stick with Fort Worth, or at least move to the "mid-cities" area - Arlington, Grand Prairie, etc.

I hope you have a car with a GOOD a/c - you'll need it if you're going to drive at ALL.

Howdy, Welcome to Texas! One thing you need to know is that traffic here is fierce. Dallas and Fort Worth look close together on a map, and as the crow flies, they aren't that far apart. People, unlike crows, cannot fly, so you will be stuck in traffic from Hell. There is a 3rd major city in the metroplex that I don't think people outside of this area hear much about. It is called Arlington. It is centrally located smack-dab in between Dallas and Fort Worth, so you get the best of both worlds, plus it is a great city in itself. It is the home to UT Arlington, the Texas Rangers, Six Flags Over Texas, and starting in 2009, the home of the Dallas Cowboys. The Super Bowl is going to even be here in 2011! So give Arlington a serious look. Once again, welcome!

Live in Fort Worth, play in Dallas. Not to say there isn't anything to do here (there is, trust me) but Dallas isn't as nice of a place to live as Fort Worth. The Camp Bowie area is a nice place to live, and close to a lot. It's a really nice place and fun for everyone.

Well as far as the commute, it's not horrible. Alot of people do it everday. If your looking for more of an exciting night life, Dallas would be the place for you. Fort Worth is kinda, well better for a Family man, but your a young Man and Dallas has lots of things to offer a younf man. Good Luck!!!

Commuting from Dallas to Ft. Worth is hectic! But if you are looking to live closer to Dallas, I would recommend Plano. Plano is aprox. 20 miles north of downtown Dallas. Plano has some of the best schools in the nation, has many, many, many, many job opportunities, and is home to Frito-Lay, Dr. Pepper/7-Up, and about a gazillion other companies. If you wanna live a nice suburban life...try Plano.
