yes, and I See nothing wrong with it, I switch up, sometimes with family members I speak both Black English and Standard, I only speak Black English around pple who actually understand the terminology and their associations, that doesn't mean you aren't being yourself, each culture has a dialect that differs from the "standard" way. The only time it becomes conflicting, is if you aren't FROM within that group or from an associated AREA that primarily uses the dialect being spoken, you then sound UNAUTHENTIC and it is CLEAR as day honey.

Jamaicans have their dialect, Belizeans, Latinos, Koreans, Chinese etc... are their dialects ignorant too? or is it because it isn't being thrusted upon mainstream society and garnering exposure which in turn induces criticism for a dialect that has been present for CENTURIES, simply because THEY don't understand it? please

Maybe you are not really sure who you are. I think we all tend to talk a little differently in different social situations, but I don't think that is what you are saying. My immediate family has inside expressions that we use when we are together that show our common background. That is not racially motivated. I doubt anyone speaks the same when they are in a bar with their old friends on a Friday night as they would with ma and pa at church on Sunday morning.

i don't change my speech for different races but yet I slightly alter my speech for different subcultures. I don't go overboard like some people, and have that subcultures looking at you funny. All Black people aren't raised in the same areas or social class, just like all people of other races are raised in the same environment, so it all depends on where you at and who you're talking to. But sometimes it just better to be completely yourself.

That **** pisses me off when someone from another race speaks ebonically challenged to me. I dont speak ebonics. Its stereotyping and its ignorant. You put boy at the end of that sentence i notice. Im sure that will get you a black eye if said to the right black person.

No, this old southern gal doesn't know how to speak anything else. I will try to speak correct English unless I cutting up with someone but southern accent is what I have and speaking to anyone is the same no matter who they are.

No, I speak pretty proper. Most people laugh at me when I try and talk slang, they think I sound funny. But I pretty much talk the same with anyone.

Peace!

I speak more formally in formal situations, and more casually in casual situations. But as to applying it to race, no. Not that I've noticed.

When I'm in another country, I try to speak at least passably in their language, but that's pure respect and desire to learn, and has nothing to do with race.

No but when I speak to my family who live in Scotland, my children say I immediately talk like them, and I don't think I do.

Kinda only opposite of you.
I kinda go with the slang of who ever I talk to.

Also I tend to absorb types of speech by nature.
