My friend's dad is a retired Captain of the US Army, and he cannot get a job. Why is that? Why a Captain who is a war hero and served his country for so many years cannot get a decent job.

My friend is in the Navy Rotc and Im about to go the Air Force. We will both have college degree, him in engineering and me in chemistry. But can we get good high paid jobs like 160-200k jobs?

I seemed to notice, that soldiers give their life away to serve this country, but the majority doesn't seem to give a hoot about it.

Companies want fresh qualified graduate applicants who will make their image better instead of veterans, who they see as nothing but killers?

My friend told me that is all about the Pride of serving in your country and I agree with him.

But Can I still get a job after my service over and still make as much as to my counterparts who will be well established in the the job market?

Because we have people in our country illegally that we need to support..

Why give money to our vets when we can give it to people that aren't even legally here.

I tip my hat to anyone who has served in the military - especially those who fought in a war. But I do not believe vets should get a job just because they are vets. If they are the most qualified candidate, then there is no reason why they shouldn't get a job, but they shouldn't be given preference over a more qualified candidate just because they are vets.

As for your dad's friend: does he go about with the attitude that he should get preference because he's a vet. If so, that may be the reason he can't find a job. Or did his specialty in the military have little relevance to civilian jobs?

160 - 200k? Where do I apply?

I seriously doubt that if you have a college degree plus military service that the service experience will keep you from getting a good job. I think, overall, people learned after Vietnam to blame politicians, not service men and women for unpopular wars.

Not to be rude - honest - but your sentence structure, punctuation and grammar need some work, especially if you want a good paying job. If you were just hurrying and made mistakes, the companies you apply to will notice that too so slow down.

Good luck to you and your friend, stay safe and thanks, in advance, for serving!

Our nation is way too involved with international affairs it just isn't funny anymore !

All the fighting veterans have done for our country, just explains how tired you become with changing your government?

Maybe vets that share the same theory, should really speak up when it comes to congress , instead of wanting sympathy from everyone else. ( who really can't do anything about it )

Veterans fought for their very own freedom as well as everyone else's , These men have a voice louder than anyone else's that can throw in a vote at election time.

Its really in the White house, not on Y/A.

Nothing angers me more than when I see a homeless veteran the fact that we have homeless veterans is disgusting. The fact is no one wants to fund services to veterans. It is easy to sit their and say you support the troops and wave your flag and what not but it seems to be real hard to apporiate funds to fix VA hospitals fund veterans centers that help veterans. Also like you said people think that since you have spent time away from education you have lost your skills. The problem in the corporate world is people do not get hired on skills as much as they used to they get hired because they know someone. Frustrating isn't it.

I tip my hat to everybody who has served interior the army - fairly people who fought in a warfare. yet i do no longer have faith vets could get a job in simple terms simply by fact they're vets. in the event that they're the main qualified candidate, then there is not any explanation why they shouldn't get a job, yet they shouldn't take transport of determination over a extra qualified candidate in simple terms simply by fact they're vets. As to your dad's chum: does he pass approximately with the physique of ideas that he could get determination simply by fact he's a vet. if so, that must be the reason he won't be able to come across a job. Or did his good point interior the army have little relevance to civilian jobs?

Apply for a state, county, or city job. They give veterans preference. If you are some how handicapped or a minority, you jump up the ladder too. If you're expecting 160-200 k job, keep dreaming. Most people, veterans included, can only dream of that.

Because the same people that sent our service people into war without the proper armor and ammo, also hold the purse strings for the veteran's hospitals, and other "aftercare." Also, they do not push for veterans preferences to be given by the very corporations that you're being sent to protect!

Obviously the answer-ers here have not read your question carefully--telling you to take a few classes and learn a skill when you have already said that you have a college degree.

Veterans aren't treated like crap at all!

Veterans get preferential job treatment where by law their applications have to be considered before anyone else's. You should really talk to a Veteran's Administration Rep or check out www.va.gov to see the benefits. It's simply amazing what we get!

It must be where you live. My buddy is an Iraq War veteran and he had no problem getting a good job. My guess is that you're a huge douche and so are the people you know. If you suck at life you probably suck at interviews. So you have nobody to blame but your ignorant self. Bye f@ggot.
