septic tanks-and rid x?

We have a septic tank and have been told if you take care of it you never really have to empty it. I was told to use rid x once a month. Is this right? Can I use rid x more then once a month? If I use more then once a month am I harming the septic tank?

Rid X or any other type of bacterial agent that aids a septic tank won't harm it, it's a matter of question if it will help it also. If you use the tank with care and watch what goes down it, IE: don't dump left over chemicals, paint, etc down the toilet to get rid of it, then the tank will last for years. Mine went, we figured forty years but, that's the outside.
If you get ten, fifteen years, your doing well. without pumping.

Rid X will not harm your septic tank, it provides bacteria to help break down the solids in your tank.
The worst thing you can do with septic tank is use bleach as it kills the Bacteria that "eats" the solids. Another thing that I found out the hard way on is never flush old medication down the toilet as it will also kill the bacteria

rid-x will break down the solids in you tank, but won't liquefy them. The problem is that your pump will be able to pump the waste out to your drain field but won't totally drain out like liquids do. Your drain field will eventually plug up and you will have major problems costing big bucks to repair. I have a septic system and have it pumped out every three years.

No your not hurting it but you should still have it pumped out every few yrs.You get solids that dont get totally broke down to a liquid and a couple hundred bucks every few yrs is a whole lot better than having waste,other than liquids go to your drain field........its probably about 10k to have your septic re-done.
