Older names are always popular, just not all of them. I love the name Evelyn, my old neighbor's 4 year old daughter's name is Evelyn. Plus you can use Eve or Evie for short. Heather has been fairly popular for some time. I have an aunt Heather. I had a home visit nurse by the name Susan when I had my son 2 years ago. I never liked the name Ralph, but the rest of them come and go, just like most trends. I just wouldn't name a girl Madison personally. Yell it at a school and possibly 25 kids will turn head to see if you are calling them.

Heather: I know 3 different Heather's...I think the name has never been extremely popular, but it's not unheard of either.
Susan: If it does come back in style, I see it only being used as a middle name to honor their mother, grnadmother, etc. Never have liked that name....
Helen: Nice, strong possibility i might come back, I've heard a lot of those lately...
Ken: I think Ken (Kenneth) has always been a popular name. A lot of boys have the middle name Kenneth from their daddy!
Malory: I have always loved this name, but I hate the meaning. It means 'Unhappy, Unlucky'.
Ralph: To be honest, I hope it doesn't become popular again.

I don't necessarily think their "unpopular" simply not as common as they were in the 60's and 70's. I really like the names Susan and Ken. Heather is nice too. Ralph I've never liked!

Heather is a popular name. There are plenty of cool young girls names Heather. The others make you think of an older person though, that's for sure. I would definately go with Heather out of those choices. I would spice up an older name, like instead of Helen, how about Helena? Helena is cool, Helen is in her 50's.

traditional names are definitely on the rise right now! If you go to this link: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/
It will take you to the Social Security Administrations records of the most popular names for the year 2006. I think you will find the girl's names particularly interesting :)
We all hear a lot of talk about "unique" baby names, but in reality, they aren't that popular!
Personally, I LOVE the names Helen and Kenneth, they are both very classic and strong!
We named our oldest son Ian Carle (named after both his grandfathers) and our second son is Shaun Forsythe (named for a good friend who passed away and my husband's Scottish clan...my husband is very proud of his heritage lol)

Names, especially female names, go in and out of "style" all the time. 15 years ago if you named a child Grace, Emily, Abigail, Emma or Hannah people wouldve told you those are "old lady names" now schools are chuck full of them. Choose a name you like, choosing a traditional but "unpopular" name would be OK - your child wouldnt be one of 76 Addisons or Emmas in her school but everyone would understand how to pronounce her/his name!

I don't even think Heather or Mallory is that old. It's possible they could all come back. Emma is a very old-fashioned name and is practically the most popular girls' name now.
