I was thinking about writng my dad a letter saying how great he is and how much I appreciate him. I am doing this because I don't have a lot of money at the moment, and neither does my dad. (My dad is one of those people who feels guilt easily, so he might feel bad if I got him an expensive gift) Is this a bad idea?

It's a great ideal. Never measure your self worth by your net worth!! Maybe you can make him dinner on Father's day also and I'm sure your father will appreciate it greatly.

It is a great idea. A personal letter can mean so much more than a gift that can be forgotten. I actually did the same thing for my Dad last year. I wrote the letter which was I tried to personalize from my childhood experiences. I bought some fancy stationery and an inexpensive frame and framed the letter so he could keep it. He loved it and keeps it by his nightstand.

If your dad is the high-quality person that you must be (since your idea shows a GREAT DEAL of quality) then I guarantee you, he'll keep that letter for the rest of his life. No fancy gift could ever come close to the feeling in your dad's heart when he reads your letter.
Your dad is lucky to have you as his child!

No, it is a great idea. It is not necessary to spend money on things that you can't even remember later, and are likely completely useless. A letter expressing your feelings is lovely and sure to be hugely appreciated.
I think that there are so many expectations to spend money on people, but a letter is personal and wonderful. It shows your caring, your time, and expresses your feelings. What more could anyone want?
Good for you.

No actually I think most parents would much rather get a heart felt gift than an expensive one. It means more

It is a wonderful idea. I am 46 and my father has an old cigar box covered in contact paper that I gave him 35 years ago. It will be special and from the heart, what could be better.

Well, I'm a dad and I'll tell you that I think that's a truly great Fathers Day present. There's nothing that makes us feel better than being loved and appreciated by our kids!
And it's a helluva lot better than Old Spice or an ugly tie!

No, that sounds nice. If you don't have alot of money, maybe you can make him dinner or lunch, or have a picnic lunch at a park if he likes nature. Since most men like the outdoors. I'm sure since your his daughter he'll love it more than any store bought thing, cause it comes straight from you.

No, My dad was sick once and I gave him a homemade get well card, He kept it for a long time. I never knew. Write from the heart and I bet he will keep it for a long time as well. He understands the money situation, And would treasure anything from you. Especially something so heart felt.

Fabulous...do it! Often, in everyday life, we don't verbalize our feelings as much as we should. This is perfect! He'll treasure it forever, and will most likely ALWAYS have it, even after you aren't around him that much. ANYONE can BUY something. That would be a PRESENT. But this is from your heart, and will truly be a GIFT!!!
