He is adopted. They just haven't shown the episode where he was sucked down someone's kitchen sink and wound up on the ocean floor (sort of like finding Nemo, only in reverse.)

I have heard people claim that he just did it to make his parents mad, that he went down to the barber and got a buzz cut because he is a rebel at heart, but I don't believe that.

The first explanation makes more sense when you stop and think about it. He is so different from everybody else in the sea, not just his parents. Some people claim he's homosexual, but he's never been seen performing a homosexual act, so I don't buy that. It's more liek he's probably so odd because he is really alien to the sea, just like Superman is alien to Earth, and that's why he is different (even though he looks normal.)

Anyhow, it's pretty obvious just from looking at spongebob that he is not a natural sea sponge; he is a synthetic cellulose kitchen sponge that was made in a factory.

Now, you have to admit, spongebob IS a little shy with girls. Remember the episode when his girlsfriend wanted to have sex with him and he asked her what kind of birth control she used? She said, "I'l just use my sponge... Bob." Talk about putting a square peg in a round well... you know.

That could scar anybody
