Historically, It seems to refer to Canada as province or as an auxilliary kingdom of the UK.

The phrase auxilliary kindom seem to refer to THE "DOMINION" OF CANADA
In fact, the phrase 'Kingdom of Canada' occurs in all the first documents. This did not mean an independent kingdom, but an auxiliary kingdom.

Auxiliary kingdom is one that supports a main kingdom. The auxiliary provides soldiers, money and equipment to the main kingdom in times of war.
