In the beginning Edea was controlled by Ultimecia and then when they defeated her in Galbadia Garden Edea powers were pasted to Rinoa who also inherited Ultimecia powers, then when they went to the Lunar Base Ultimecia took over Rinoa's body and unlocked the seal on Adel's Lunatic Pandora or home. Then Adel junctions Rinoa into her, after the battle Ellone sends Ultimecia to the past into the young Adel and then time compression happenes. Then they go to the future and defeat Ultimecia.

i first heard that theory about two years ago, and rather like it. - it makes sense too.

that ultemecia was actually rinoa in the future trying to reach back in time to where squall said he'd wait for her, as said in the beginning movie of FFVIII

No. Ultimecia is a sorceress that Edea and Cid was preparing for. Ultimecia was somewhere in time, I'm not sure if in the future or in the past, jumping from one time zone to another.

The SeeDs were specifically trained for the fight against Ultimecia. Edea was possesed by Adel (I think) and After Squall was able to defeat Edea, Some powers went to Rinoa, but Rinoa isn't Ultimecia.
