Mine are, they're in complete denial though. they're older, they try to seem P.C., but every once in awhile, they let their true colors show.

My dad is a minister and my mom is a house wife. Actually my dad is retired now but once a preacher always a preacher. It seems every conversation we have is a bit one sided, like he's spreading the word again. Neither one of them would admit it but both are prejudice. I guess prejudice and racist go hand in hand. I am white as are my parents but they have different views than myself. I rarely see color but I must admit I am a little prejudice myself. I think we all are to a certain degree. I'll give you an example. Let's say I'm on an elevator alone. At the next floor four black men get onto the elevator. Now then, if these four black men are dressed in business suits I would most likely not be nervous. But if they were dressed in casual wear or street clothes I would be a bit nervous. You see, to a certain degree we are all a little bit racist. At least that's what I think.

My folks are countrified rednecks though. If the saw a black person or a chinese person or anyone who isn't ''white'', they would most likely have some kind of comment. When they watch the news and the news is reporting on a black man killing someone, they would most likely make a comment like, ''It figures.'' Or if a Russian woman won a gold medal they would start spouting off about how those ''reds'' shouldn't be allowed to compete against Americans. I get really sick of hearing their crap sometimes, but then I realize how old they are and where they are from. Both are over 70 and both were raised in the Virginia mountains. Hillbilly rednecks through and through. They were taught to believe as they do. My dad has done his best to accept all people but I can tell he doesn't think other people are as smart as white people. He has had many different people obey the gospel while he was preaching, and somehow that makes them all OK. It's like being a christian means they are all one race and there's no more color. I guess that's at least a step in the right direction.

What I can't understand though is how I could have been raised by my parents and not be a biggot or racist or predjudice. I have some really good friends that are black, white and mexican. That's pretty much the mix where I live. It's not a matter of color to me but more to do with each person I talk to. Hey, there's predjudice rednecks in every race. You don't have to be white to be a redneck and you don't have to be black to be a ******. ''Redneck'' and '' ******'' are just words used to show ignorance. It's not the words that hurt but the people who use those words to base a lifetime of racism upon a predjudice idea.

''True colors'' is a good way of saying ''People who are intolerant of colors other than their own.'' I think we all should try to be a little less racist and a little more ''colorful.'' :)

I think a lot of this is going to depend on the rest of the family dynamic. If breaking the rules would put the kid in danger, then as awful as the racist rules are it might ultimately be better for the kid to follow them until he or she is old enough to get out of the house and be safe. But if they're not in danger, I don't see the benefit in forcing them to be racist.

my best friend's parents are in my mind. They are older and grew up in the south during segregation and they are 'uncomfortable' with racial discussions and such. They still argue that the Civil War was a battle over 'state's rights'.

Go figure.

My mom definitely isn't. She's married to a white man! My dad, on the other hand, is a little racist. He has "strong feelings" about white people.

our parents are more enlightened then their parents and grand parents...just like your children and grand children will be more enlightened then you are...

your children may love you ...but they seldom will forgive you..this is just a fact..we all think we are smarter then our parents..but that is just human nature...when you get older and have a little more experience then you too will have changed your way of thinking with more input in living..that is not if you are not set in your ways..
