Yes it most certainly is. There is condition known as Incompetent Cervix when the cervix starts to open without any warning or contractions and leads to the membranes bulging and causes miscarriage.
I was 20 weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy and that is exactly what happened to me. I went on to lose my son and had to be in labor for 16 hours as nothing could be dont to put the sack back in.
Please ask if you could possibly have this when you see your doctor. There is something that can be done before further dilation and opening of the cervix occurs. You can have a stitch put around your cervix to keep it closed and stop you from dilating any further.
Sorry i am not trying to scare you but i would never forgive myself if you didn't know it could possibly be this condition and something tragic where to happen to your baby. If you ask and the say incompetent cervix is not the problem then fine, great no harm done. But if you ask and they say yes it is you still have time to do something about it, all be it a very limited time as the stitch is normally put in between 12/14 weeks before the baby gets to heavy. I hope in all sincerity i am wrong but please it wont hurt to ask. Good luck. I am sure you and your precious baby will be fine.

PS i went on to have a beautiful daughter with the help of a cervical stitch and am 41 weeks and 4 days pregnant and going in to be induced today. There is help and hope:)

Yes, for some women dilation occurs very slowly and gradually over a period of many weeks leading up to birth.

I always start dilating early in my pregnancies. I get strong Braxton-Hicks contractions starting at 20 weeks.

Im not trying to scare you or anything but I had the same happen to me. I was preg. with my 4th child BUT, when i had ultrasound done, they immediately sent me to hospital cause of the risk of going into pre-term labor. I had to have surgery to put a cerclauge in to stop me from going into labor. I was 23 weeks preg at the time. I would talk to your doctor about it just to be on the safe side. They removed the stich at 36 weeks and had my healthy son two weeks later. Good luck and God Bless.

It seems to be really early to be dilated. You should tell your doctor so that they can advise what action is needed to be taken. I am 35 weeks and have not even dilated a bit. Go to you doctor and ask him or her this question. Good luck to you.
