my teacher says it means maturity how does it mean maturity???

What do you think it means? It can meet a lot of different things to different people.
Men who have gone to war often refer to a loss of innocence, Our country is often thought to have gone threw a loss of innocence when JFK was assassinated.
young teens and pre-teens who have loss parents and close loved ones have had a loss of innocence.
It really depends..... but usually involves a major personal event that changes the way someone thinks about life.

Loss of innocence is, when you are world wise, wise to some basic facts of life: usually, through the impact of an experience inflicted on you! in a lighter vein, when you know what is loss of innocence, you are no more innocent! you have acquired wisdom, from the answer!

It means you 've found a worm in your apple. Go back to Adam and Eve. They lost their innocence when their eyes were opened, after they ate from the tree of good and evil. Before that, they didn't know that evil existed. Hope this helps.

In English Lit and in general rhetoric it can mean:
-Loss of purity (losing virginity)
-Discovery of one's own faults (your first lie)
-Experience (first time going to a location or doing something)
-Rite of passage (first time driving, first time drinking)
-Being blamed (more literal meaning, think of being in court and proven guilty)
-Newfound knowledge, generally 'harmful' (first time learning a curse word)
-Overall, becoming more responsible (think growing up from child to adult.. this def. is more holistic)

"loss of innocence". it can mean many things to many people. "loss of innocence" can be used when a child is killed/murdered....."loss of innocence" can be used to describe the loss of one's virginity (in this manner it can be called the "loss of purity")
as for lil' j's answer it doesn't always mean when some one is raped. lil' j is seriously MISINFORMED!
