Subtract the whole numbers to get 4 - 1 = 3. The fractions subtracted are
1/3 - 1/4 = 4/12 - 3/12 = 1/12. so the answer is 3 1/12

The next answer is the associative property, B). The associative property says that the grouping doesn't matter.

1. Subtract 4 1/3 - 1 1/4.
Find a common denominator:
LCM of 3 and 4 is 12.
Find equivilant fractions:
4 4/12- 1 3/12=3 1/12

2. Properties.
Communative: a times b=b times a
Associative: a times (b times c)= (a times b) times c
Distributive: a times (b plus c)= (a times b)+(a times c).

It illustrates the associative property.
