You've got to be kidding, right? There's 10 commandments, but after that, I don't think anyone would have a clue at how to answer this question.

56,349,076 Total.
Just kidding. The problem with that question is each state has their own laws. Specific laws may be exactly the same as another state's law but not every state so you don't want to count the same law twice. Plus it changes all the time because some laws are abolished and some are added each election. Also there are those "dumb laws" that are still on the books about ridiculous things. Did you know that it is illegal to eat more than two sandwiches at a wake in the state of Massachusetts? I see that everyone else got a thumbs down so I guess I'm prepared for mine as well. Good luck in your search. I doubt you will find the answer on here though.

Unfortunately, the ONLY possible answer is "It depends on how you count". For example, many jurisdictions periodically incorporate all the laws of the jurisdiction into one huge law call the Revised Code. Does that count as 1 law, or do you count all the laws incorporated into the code? When a law is changed, is that a new law? If a single bill addresses 7 unrelated issues, how many laws is it? Are you counting Federal, state AND local laws? Do you want only laws that apply where you are, or state and local laws for EVERY state and locality? Even if ALL of these questions are answered, the total number of laws may have changed while I was typing.

I would never consent to a request to search. They're violating your right to privacy when they search without a warrant. The right answer is to politely decline the request - as "there is nothing to find". If you don't agree to a search, it is not because you have something to hide as the "officer" above suggests. That is a completely BS assumption that a typical cop would probably have - so what - let them get a warrant and prove it - or better yet they search after you refuse and have all evidence discarded in court for illegal search and siezure - even if it's a corpse with the knife still in it with your fingerprints all over it. I'm completely sick of this society thinking it's ok to violate more and more of my/our personal freedoms.

The total number of laws is one more than we ought to have.
There is always (at least) one law that you don't agree with. That is the one law too many.
Seriously, though, the answer is hard to give since the federal government has laws, each state has laws, counties have laws, cities and towns have laws, etc, etc, etc.

The United States Code (and the code of each state) fill up 30-40 volumes. Just go down to a law library and see for yourself. This will give you an idea.

For each State there's a LEAST 30-50 volumns of statutory law... and law library full of case law that interprets the statutes... so... absolutely impossible to tell.

No one has any idea as to how many laws there are. No one at all. It would take several years and millions of dollors to find the answer and don't give anyone the idea of getting a grant for this.
