it goes to this screen that says there was a 'fatal system error' and windows has to shut down. that happens everytime i start adaware. what is causing this?

I used Adaware SE Personal with just about every platform that Microsoft ever put out along with zone alarm, free firewall and never had the problem that you describe.
Suggest that you remove the entire program and reinstall and see if this corrects the problem.

I used to have the same problem.I think it's because of the firewall.If you have installed a firewall lately,just turn it off,see if it helps.Good Luck.
