It is completely your call. Make sure that it is something that you really want because it will be permanent. The removal if you decide to change your mind is more painful then the actual tattoo and it leaves a residue of the old the tattoo... my brother in law just recently had a tattoo lasered off... Think about it and research. I have a tattoo myself which I got a couple of months after I turned 18... I still love it... but it took me a while to decide what I want and to search for a tattoo parlor.... You have to think of the cost of the tattoo and the location of where you want it. For your first I wouldn't recommend it anywhere visible not unless the career that you are looking to get into does not frown upon tattoos... good luck... hope you make a decision that's right for you,,, :o)

Don't do it just because you are 18. If you want to you should have a specific idea of what you want before you go get it done. Look through a certified artist's portfolio, check out their work. Then decide what you want and where you want it. It's permanant. I got a tattoo when I was 19. I knew exactly what I wanted and where I wanted it. Now that I am 27 I forget I have it.

If you want to. But do yourself the favour of getting it in a place that is not readily noticeable.
Most people won't care, but potential employers can be picky. Unless you come from a family that is going to support you for your whole life then you will have to become employed some time.
And before anyone jumps down my throat, figuring I'm some old fart that doesn't know what it is like to express myself, it just so happens that I have a small 3 inch red and yellow dragon tattooed behind my left ear. And I got it for all the usual reasons. My chinese horoscope sign is the dragon, and my daughters assure me that it is my dominant personality trait. And I just LOVE Anne McCaffrey's Pern series. For people who know them, it doesn't require any other explanation.

It's up to you now. When my son turned 18, I paid for the tattoo. I grew up in the 70's, and anyone from my generation that bitches about anything, and I mean anything, that your generation does is a hypocrite. Anyhow. My son is now 21, has several tattoos, he loves his tattoos and I love him.

Just because your 18 doesnt mean you should automatically go out and get pierced, tatoos, etc...
Remember a tatoo is permanent, and you'll regret getting something dumb later. Only get a tatoo that is symbolic of something, or of something you feel strongly about. Such as a deceased mother, or a close friend.
Im probably going to get something small in Arabic like my name, or peace, or unity or something on my top right back. Or a life motto, like go hard or go home.
There are also special black light tatoos you can get. Make sure its dont in white though, because other colors still slightly show up in normal light. The white ink only shows up in black UV light, so you can still express yourself without the normal fears associated with tatoos. Like will it affect my job etc...
Don't just get something random like tribal, or azn letters. You'll regret it later.
Hope this helps

Depends on where and what. If you get something personal. Keep it personal, somewhere people wont see it on a day to day basis. But if it's something small, on your ankle, shoulder, etc. would be fine.
But you would have to think. What will it look like in 40 years? Will I be willing to go through the pain to get it. And if I don't like it after it's done, amd I willing to go through more pain, and get it removed. Leaving scar tissue behind in the shape of the tattoo.

Get a picture of the tattoo you want. Tape it to your fridge or your bedroom door. After one whole year of looking at it every day, and you still love the design, then go for it.

You are old enough to make your own decisions........just remember this......if you get a tattoo.....think long and hard about where you want it placed on your body. Some employers will not hire you if it's visible and.......imagine out it will look when your 70....lol

Totally a personal choice that should not let anyone else make for you. I got one but was not until I was 30 years old and had alot of meaning for myself. Not just a rash decision because I felt like it.
