Weed is illegal becuase the government cant tax it. Why would people spend good money on alchohol if they could just literally grow for free it in their back yard? It grows everywhere, hence the name weed.
And, it is harmful, yes. But alchohol, cigarettes, chew, caffine and guns are legal. Those are all more dangerous.

You are really opening a can of worms here. It has been proven that MJ is less harmful than alcohol. There is no such thing as a drug overdose death by MJ. The govt. has restricted its use and originally this was a racial back lash because the blacks in the south were the only users. Remember Cocaine and Heroine used to be sold openly in drug stores and even general stores. As the medical community solidified and became the powerful lobby and organization that it is today, They took the power of self medication from the people and legislated a program where we have to pay them to get the right to pay for our own medication. At the same time illegal drugs are big business and big politics. Have you ever noticed that most good drugs come from countries where there are wars and strife in progress, Afganistan and Pakistan MJ, Hash, Opium, heroine. Vietnam and southeast asian countries the same. Coloumbia, Cocaine and MJ, Our govt. is many times involved and aids the sale of these drugs to prop up regiems and revolutions. This is proven fact and the Master Seargents and CIA have been implicated in plot after plot dealing drugs and washing money. Look at Noreiga. He was the transfer point and money launderer for half of south america and one of the U.S.'s intelegence operatives. He got a little too cocky and then and only then did they drop the hammer on him. Big business. Big money.
They bust the little guys in their "War on Drugs" The occasional "big" bust in the papers and on the news. Thats just them taking out a guy that is starting to get to the really big level and give them to much competition. They clear the competition and show that "we are winning the war on drugs" bull sh** In short Its illegal because its making big money and gives our govt. has a handle on various other governments. Read the Book "UnderGround Empire, Where Crime and Governments embrace." By James MIlls. A great read and the real truth. But not all of the truth though. By the way I am actually in the book. I know what I am talking about. You will never guess my part in the book and I will never tell. have fun
some where in our govt. documents there is a clause that says we are entitled to Life, Liberty and the persuit of happiness. Yeah! unless you want to stay happily stoned.
Ps sorry about the spelling errors spell check failed.

It's illegal because William Randolph Hearst hated Mexicans.
William Randolph Hearst, the creator of Yellow Journalism and the one person on earth most responsible for the Spanish-American War, was a vehement anti-Catholic. He foamed at the mouth over all those moist-backed Roman scum (goodness, Robo-censor is active this afternoon :-) coming under the fence. So, he thought, what better way to roust the Chicanos and send them back where they came from than to criminalize their marijuana.
And _that_ is why weed is illegal.

Well long ago marijuana was growing almost everywhere. It's a rather robust weed, that can grow in almost any environment. So before laws were made a person could just pick it up off the ground, dry it out & smoke it, & get high.
All this stuff about grow-ops, & dealers & the such just didn't exist.
I think that rather offended the producers of wine & spirits somewhat, so they made sure that there was a law that said it was OK to get high off what they sold, but not from what you can get for free out of any fallow field.
After more than 100 years of being indoctrined in the idea that booze is good, but weed is bad, it's kind of hard to get it out of the heads of even the sharpest minds.
I have always found it interesting that our society pays attention to all of the data available that says that weed is bad for people, but ignores the same kind of facts about alcohol. I also find it equally interesting that the United States actually did attempt to make alcohol illegal during the period known as "Prohibition", but eventually gave up on the idea mainly out of frustration with enforcing it on a society that clearly didn't follow the law. But still steadfastedly persists in keeping marijuana illegal even though the law is blatently ignored by many in our society .
Once again, I refer to the lobby of the wine & spirit producers as the chief cause of that.

There is a movement in many countries by the drug companies to make their nation free of drugs in competition.
Marijuana is probably medically not as bad as Alcohol or Tobacco But the people lobbying to legalize it have not had the success that Alcohol and Tobacco marketing has had.
Remember Prohibition in America? ... when Alcohol was banned, a large proportion of the population were still consuming it, and continued to do so even when illegal. Enforcement became impractical.

Because we really dont live in the Land of the Free.
I think crackheads should go ahead and smoke crack so they can face their own consequences and kill themselves.
Its amazing that alcohol is legal, but many more have died from that than smoking a little pot.
Sound a little backwards?
Like many other things we do in America?

ok, weed is illegal because it destroys your brain, esophagus, kidneys, lungs, testes/ovaries, and heart. it is deadly in large doses, and is very potent in the modern form.
if for no other reason, it helps nobody by being legal, and clouds peoples' judgements.
