The difference between ambition and envy as an indirect declaration of inferiority can be measured by the strength of desire you have regarding the object that is the source of envy. If you have strong desire for something then envy can also be an assertion of that strength.

in some ways it is an admission to inferiority... because with envy, you acknowledge the fact that there are things present to other people that you do not have, and simple being bothered by this thought acknowledges that you want these for yourself too, only, you don't or can't and so your defense mechanisms puts on automatically to envy to cover for the feeling that you feel less than you should...

It could be an emotional consequence of perceived inferiority, but it could also be an emotional reaction against perceived injustices in the world, where not always those deserving of certain things seems be rewarded, instead of those judged to be more deserving, such as oneself, though this would be a childish reaction.

I believe that the open (inward/outward) acknowledgement of envy is a sign (admission?) of mastery over envy.

No not inferiority, just wanting what someone else has that you don't have. Its not being inferior to them just not content with what you've got.

Yes I beleive it is, since logically speaking you wont be envy of someone if you are superior to him will you? You are envious about him in one point even though you might be better in others.
