The '86 Celtics would murder the '07 Spurs and the simple reason why is that due to expansion, the talent pool is so diluted in the NBA.
While the Spurs have one superstar in Duncan and two legitimate stars in Parker and Ginobili, the Celts had one superstar in Bird, and star players McHale, Parish, DJ, and former stars coming off the bench like Bill Walton and Scott Wedman, and so on. The depth of the Lakers/Celtics teams from the 80s was incredible. They would have former superstars on their bench like a Walton or Bob McAdoo and while the Spurs have one of the finest benches by today's standards, it just doesn't match up. Adding the extra six (?) expansion teams during the 90s really diluted the talent.

The Spurs are a fine team. However, I don't think they would have much of a chance against the 86 Celtics. That was one of those really special teams. When you have Bird, Parish, McHale, Johnson, and Ainge as your starting five, it's going to be a tough series. Celtics in 5.

Reg. Season Standings:
1986 Celtics 67-15; 2007 Spurs 58-14 ....Homecourt Celtics

lets see:

Bowen will have his hands full against Bird although i think Bowen can play defense much like what Micheal Cooper did to Bird. still, Larry Legend will dominate because of his tremendous passing and rebounding;

for sure, Duncan will guard McHale coz i think Horry, Oberto and Elson will have a hard time against McHale's Drop Step/ Up-and-under move. while Parish, McHale and Walton will rotate and tire Duncan out aside from the double/triple team that coach KC Jones will throw to Duncan. pretty much the same defense they did to the twin towers of Houston (Olajuwon & Sampson);

if Duncan will take McHale on the defensive end, Parish will have a good scoring series against Oberto and Elson because of the pick and roll with Bird .

Dennis Johnson will take on Finley while Danny Ainge is much slower against Parker but still he can't leave Ainge beyond the arc coz he's licensed to shoot.

coming from the celtics bench are Walton, Sichting & Wedman against the spurs' Ginobili, Barry & Horry

and when the smoke clears, Celtics will come out on top, 4-1.

i will give the Spurs 1 win because of their cohesiveness but they will be overwhelmed by the Celtics' frontline.

Easy. The 2007 Spurs in a complete and utter sweep. The guys on the 86' Celtics are at least in their mid-40's. They have no hope of hanging. LOL

Celtics in 3. Yes 3. After the third straight shellacking, the Spurs would forfeit the series.

Are you kidding??

The 86 Celts would run the Spurs off the court. The games would be over in the third quarter, although McHale vs. Duncan matchup would be fun to watch.

Celtics sweep!!

I would take Larry byrd, Danny Ainge, Robert Parrish, Kevin Mchale, Red Aurbach as the Coach any day of the Week over San "An Frickin" Tonio, the Celt's ruled the 80's right next to the Lakers, but we had more Champ wins than they did and still do

Definitely Celtics in 4.

That was the greatest front line ever to play the game,and Walton was healthy that year (played in 80 games for the only time in his career).

Duncan would get crushed by those guys.
