i can not seem to get my printer to work. Is this because my printer is a lexmark x73 and my p.c. is a pavilion?

Absolutely not. The key to adding hardware is to NEVER plug it in until you have installed the software first. There should have been a CD with your printer, or if you bought your printer second hand without a CD you can go to the Lexmark website and download the drivers there. Install the drivers and THEN plug in your printer. Windows is notorious for this, but it is still (in my opinion) the most user friendly OS. Good luck.

No, that has nothing to do with it. You should be able to turn on your computer and your printer and then just plug the printer into the tower. Windows should see it and load the driver. If this is a printer scanner combo, you will need to load the driver first and then plug it into you system. It should show right away.

Check your ink levels, my old printer would disconnect itself if one of the ink cartridges was out.

Open your "printer" file and see if your Lexmark is listed. If not, double click on "Add New Printer". You should be on your way.
