All inventions were made to lessen the load of manual labor, so that humankind could create civilizations. It has always been believed that manual labor kept human beings from refining their higher thinking and (instead of being lazy) using leisure time to become more educated and more cultured.

Sheer and constant manual labor debases the human being. Historically, it has been those who were artists and intellectuals, who had the leisure to pursue higher goals and to improve the lot of their respective civilizations.

What does "allow people to be lazy," is indulgence in low art, low forms of leisure; a person with more time on her/his hands is responsible to use that time for his/her spiritual and moral development and for the betterment of the human condition. There is a meaninglessness that comes with low art, wasting time, cheap reading, partying, TV, and that meaningless can lead to depression--and that's where lethargy and sloth come in to play.

T.S. Eliot: "They crave to be distracted by distraction. Time hangs heavy on their hands. They don't know how to fill it, so they kill it."

And so it is, not from the creation of inventions, but from a poor education system that does not teach its students to aspire to greatness or to the appreciation of greatness.

I think you mean physical laziness. Nowadays, to be successful, you need a large amount of mental exercise like speaking two languages, or possessing a college degree. 100 years ago, you didn't need a Harvard degree, just an able body.

Whatever makes life easier is always a good invention. Think about it, would you still like to go down to the river to wash your clothes?
