Can the 2004 Grand Prix GTP run on regular fuel?

In the review from Edmunds, it says "This year, the supercharged engine can run on regular fuel, though premium is recommended for the best performance". Is this true or do they not know what they are talking about?

it can, i had a 1997 GTP Supercharged Grand Prix. Premium is just preffered to make it run its best since it is a supercharged car it needs the best grade of gas. but it not gonna not work if you use regular. Also, regular gas will burn a lot quicker than premium!!!

I own a supercharged '06 GT, and I've run on both with no ill effects. I use Shell fuel as I've found it to be the cleanest and when gas isn't like $3.50 a gallon I use the high test stuff.

NO! GTP's are forced induction cars that need premium octane 91+ so the mixture doesn't ignite prematurely. You might not notice the "ill effects" of knock until you chip a piston. The owners manual also states "use regular only in emergency to limp home"

This type of engine can run on regular fuel.This engine adjust the timing to use regular fuel with no problem.You will not get the better MPG as you do with premium fuel.

Why no longer stick on your proprietor's handbook? If 87 octane is the minimum cautioned; then use it. while you're having problems with pre-ignition or "pinging", then in the present day pass to a greater octane gasoline. Switching to a greater grade gasoline would ward off the pinging and attainable harm on your engine's cylinder heads. it fairly is assuming that your vehicle is tuned and the ignition timing is wisely adjusted. a greater grade of gasoline would help your vehicle's overall performance, fairly which contain your supercharged engine. it is your call, % properly.
