the object of the experiment is to design and build a device that uses the potential energy stored in a mouse trap to put out the flame of a standard birthday candle form a distance of one meter.
we can use whatever materials we would like as long as they're "safe" like no knifes or anything. lol
does anyone have any creative ideas on how i could do this? i know water is one idea but its no very creative. anyy ideas would be great!

I'd just say attach a flat piece of plastic to the moving part of the trap. It will create enough air movement as the trap closes. Or, like you say, water - put a small plastic bag with water where the mouse supposed to be and activate the device. You might need to attach a pushpin to the moving part so that it pokes the bag.
