That depends on the cat. Sometimes males are friendlier, sometimes females are friendlier. No matter what gender the cat is, it all boils down to the animal's mood and personality. We have one of each, and they both periodically get into that do not bother me mood, and then at other times, both cats are all over us with tons of love and wanting to get attention!

My male cat is much more social and friendly than my female cat. But someone else may tell you the exact opposite about their cats. Personally, I am not convinced that cat behavior or personality is determined by sex. I think that has more to do with socialization at an early age.
Here is an article that gives some tips on choosing a kitty...
http://www.secretsofcats.com/male-or-female-cat.html
Your best bet is to go and spend some time with an animal before buying or adopting. Animals, especially cats, react differently to different people... so you just have to find the proper match for you. Selecting a pet requires time and patience. Keep in mind... cats live to be about 20yrs old... so doing your research in advance will be time well spent.
Best of luck!

I think a female is much more friendlier than a male. It's just in their nature ,but it also varies from cat to cat too.Overall I think a female cat is much more friendlier.I hate to admit it ,but cats are extremely independent. They have their own idea of whats what.

Female. Definately
Not that I have anything against males.it's just fact. Female cats are sweeter.
For example...
2 male cats together= Fighting,scraching, biting.
2 female cats together=Purring, sitting on laps, harmony
This is just my opinion of course(because I love them both since cats are my favorite animal)
...besides when you say "here kitty kitty kitty" it fits better when you're calling a female cat!
:)

Female cats are kinda bossy and can be less cuddly than males. Well socialized male cats are funny goofy clowns!

I have a 14 yr. old female and she's still friendly and cuddly with me, but no one else. She's never been overly friendly with anyone but me anyway. I also have a 1 yr. old female and she is friendly and lovable to everyone. Both females have been raised in the house and treated like babies. I also have a male that stays outside because our neighbors left him here and we took him in. He's very friendly also.

The friendliest cats are the ones treated with care and consideration. Also, all cats come if you train them with treats.
P.S. - most people who don't like cats have never had one. My family raised us with both, and we had:
dogs that protected the cats
cats who babysat each others' kittens
dog who babysat for kittens [ a boy dog! ]
cats who would kill mice, etc, outside, but let my son's pet mice sit on their head [ not very graciously - they are always scowling in the pictures ]

It depends on the cat really. The upbringing and environment can alter a cat's disposition.
