they've already HAD a free-for-all on the show: Lois kicked Peter's behind; Chris thumped Meg, but good; Brian abused Stewie.
It was the episode where Lois studied a martial art, then beat up her sensei, some tourists up from NYC, and then Peter. Chris complained, and then Meg said that Peter deserved what he was getting, so Chris bashed her, and then they were pugging...Brian and Stewie then unleashed hell on one another, to take their longstanding animosity to its logical conclusion.
